What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Added a vintage Kutmaster from Utica so far this week, excellent condition with nice full blades. This style with the saw cut handles really appeals to me as a traditional Barlow.
In comparison I have this Barlow that is just marked Made In USA, after comparing the 2 I would say it is also a Utica.

My third Barlow arrived today, a 1975 Russell:

It's in pretty nice shape, and while it's got nothing on some of the treasures in this thread it's currently the oldest knife I own.

Very nice Dadpool ! What serial number is on the back of the main blade tang ?

Thanks, singin50, swaybacksteve, and Old Engineer!

06632. I actually didn't realize the whole run was serialized; I thought only the first 2,000 were.

Your question prompted me to poke around a bit, and I now see that the whole run was indeed serialized, but the first 2,000 came in fancy boxes. I must have skimmed that the first time around.

Beautiful Barlow, Drew! There are now so many variations on the TC Barlow that I have trouble keeping up with them. That spear point is one I had forgotten about. And I sure don't remember the bone being that pretty!

Here's one of mine I was showin' off over on the Wooden Wednesday thread:

Thank you Harry, Scott, Perry! always feel very lucky and blessed to find a TC, really in love with the single blades. This will be my 5th. I don't have a stews blade or spey yet, someday :)

Scott that is a stunning Palo, love the variety of grains with those

Congratulations Drew on finding a Chestnut jig bone TC! Very infrequently encountered but a real prize when found. I am on the hunt for the Spear/Pen variation. Nice one to a acquire this early on in your burgeoning collection. Lloyd

Really nice knives in this thread, and more coming every time I take a peek! A good reminder that there is sooooo much out there that I want to try out as well.

Here is one more that's mine, a Ken Coats custom. Now, this may be another case of stretching the limits of traditional, what with the integral stainless bolsters and all. And jigged bone handles too, instead of sawcut, but I think that's acceptable. The one bit I really love is the sunk joint constuction, there's something higly appealing about that feature. And very very pocket friendly as well.

The little pocket sheath I made myself to help the knife stay upright. It's my intention that one day this knife will be given to my godson, when he's old enough and his parents say it's ok. He's three years old now so I'm going to have a chance to enjoy the Coats barlow for some time yet. :)

Thanks for the compliments guys, and that is a beautiful barlow Frankki! How is the pull? Your godson will love that someday
