I love that IXL Duncan - it is magnificent - wonderful bone color and patina !!! WOW !:thumbup::thumbup::)

ALSO - looks like the New Day coming soon will be really stunning !!!:thumbup::)

Duncan, you have some beautiful old Barlows. That IXL is stunning.

Augie, you have been scoring some great ones, lovely bone on your IXL.

Glad you like it my friends!
You might note that the Spey is wider than the one in the Day's Work.
I have seen many old knives with extra wide blades, especially Jacks.
The theory may have been that the blade would last through many more sharpenings. We'll see - in about thirty years or so!!
:D

I'm looking forward to this wide blade Spey; it should be interesting. If I'm still around in 30 years, I hope I will have worked this new Spey until it looks worse than I will. But by then there will probably be a 25th anniversary TC in my collection, too.

I love it when the oldies come out! I'm a patina "Ho" fer shure!
Nice, Augie and Duncan!

Did I say Primble's stellar "old Barlow portrait" is my new desktop??
:D

Duncan, just saw your collection of old Barlows as well as the beautiful I*Xl....wonderful collection buddy and fantastic pictures of then:cool::thumbup:

Augie, like others mentioned, nice collection your amassing:thumbup: also in agreement with Duncan's compliment/comments on the STUNNING JIGGING on that wonderful I*XL:eek::cool::thumbup:

wazu, Very nice Kabar lo:thumbup: Also the plain bolster is pristine...I owned its twin at one time but it preferred the NZ climate:)

I continue to be impressed by the TC Barlows. My two latest acquisitions are on the left. Current favorite of the six is the Day's Work - a great knife. Actually, they are all great.

Thanks Bob, I am sure Augie knows some good knife mates -visits them a lot...and when he leaves they must often say " hey...have you seen my I*XL Barlow?...Im sure I put it over here somewhere......." :D:p

Dang Duncan, you are going to give away all my secrets;)
Thanks everyone for the kind words on my Barlow collecting, you all inspire me in what to collect and what to look for because of your great pictures and histories given on the various collectable vintage Barlow's you all have collected and shared over the years.

Great collection, Augie. There are some real nice pieces there! I must be looking in all the wrong places because I'm never able to find some of the knives you have. :)

...Well buddy if you stopped sending me all of your knives -perhaps you may not have to save  :D  its a nice complaint my friend - a very nice "complaint" :)

Fred - my thoughts exactly - I think its going to look just great - Oh man - and I have just been spending on knives too!:( I always time it wrong ) - but in saying this - theres no way I am missing out on this.

I just need to have a look through Sues Jewelery Box to see what I can hock off to fund my next lot of knives lol:eek: ...mmmm ok maybe not, I value my own Jewels too much to do that to that wonderful Lady!

I didn't see this until supper time this evening, while my wife was away. I promptly spewed bits of a shwarma sandwich across the table when I started laughing! You crack me up, Duncan! :D:D Your advice to an incredibly generous man like Paul is SO true, and the jewels comment reminds me of many conversations my dear wife and I have!! (I was going to include a sample conversation, but thought better of it; I don't think Jane (my wife) or Frank or Gary (our mods) would have approved.) :p:p

Admittedly, the "New Day" knife is appealing, and I can see how it might drive desperate knife knuts to desperate measures!

Same for me Dean. I've been looking for some nice older Barlows, but nothing like what I'm seeing here.

Blood Red, Rust Red & Chestnut Jig bone TCs
Very nice Lloyd. I especially like those Rust Reds.

A couple of nice finds wazu.

This thread has been very interesting lately, with some historic info, and some beautiful knives being shown![/IMG]

Some more Barlow history discussion, which I think will be of interest, here Charlie: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ckleberry-Finn-and-tom-sawyer-should-have-had

That's a beautiful design Charlie

Fantastic old Barlow collection Duncan, and a lovely IXL
