What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Wow, my Gabbon Ebony and red-bone showed up in todays mail. I can't believe how much I really like the clip blade. I'm usually rabid about spears and drop points over clips and I find this one fantastic. I'm sure my brother will enjoy his red-bone and I think I have a new slacks knife in my G Ebony.

That a boy Dave! Buy them all...lol. I enjoy seeing that. I'm not the only one who's
extremely sick with it..;) Congrats buddy, They all look GREAT!

Thanks Charlie! The gang showed up today! That Ebony is great!!!

Black and Red! They make a fine group! They sort of add up to a Ferrari! Well- - you know what I mean! Exciting yet classy!

shut up charlie!!

My Saddle Brown "TC" Barlow came in earlier this week, Just got time to shoot some pic's. I REALLY
like this thing. It's been in my watch pocket since it came in. Excellent F&F! I'm very impressed with the
effort GEC put into this knife. Charlie you've out done yourself my friend... Well done!

this time regarding the stainless steel liners and action, how is it (meaning the action)? had a bit of experience with another maker who doesn't use brass liners and spacers. opening and closing is anemic, especially for the middle blade (a stockman) since the blade is sandwiched between two steel springs. what ever else one can say about prestn day case knives, the brass liners and modest spring pressure make for the buttery-smooth action.

All of the #15 two-blade boy's knives and barlows I have all open and close with clean, crisp snaps.

I agree, for some reason, the #15 pattern in general is super smooth with perfect snaps. Pull is perfect. Its a great complete package. Best of the GECs I would say.

Just opened a package from Charlow!
I love the Awesome Prototype!!!!!
You Rock, Sweetie!!!

Sheila has inspired me to create this hi-tech GEC tube opener! I have noticed the lids are particularly tight on most of the Barlow tubes of late.
Invoking the laws of physics (i.e: "give me a lever long enough, and I'll move the Earth!!"), and a stick of firewood, along with various other decorative materials, this is the result!

If you can picture it, you place the pointy end under one of the protrusions inside the top of the lid, and press down on the other end, and the lid virtually flies off the tube!

If you keep some of your knives stored in the tubes, you cannot do without one of these! It will be your friend for life!! (well, you know . . . . . . . .).

I proposed the design to GEC, and the first response was ROTFLTAO!
But then they saw the light - especially when I suggested they name it Tom's Thumb!!:D:D

Whudda ya think???

Did I mention I whittled it with my Genuine Barlow knife??;)
