What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Great photos, Jack! That RL Smith looks so well made, a real quality piece. I'm not a huge fan of the file work on the spine though, not strictly traditional for a barlow ;). Just playing of course, it's a great knife.

I'm happy to see the ancient TCs getting so much love. I've found mine to be an incredibly useful blade shape, with a long straight edge like a sheepfoot blade, but sitting low in the handle like a spey blade, and still enough of a point for most any task.

Thanks a lot Phil :) Yes, certainly not a typical Barlow! :D I'm with you on the Ancients

Jack, that R.L. Smith Barlow is a real standout - top to bottom.

Thanks a lot Dean

Great Ancient pic Robb

I know some find these sacrilegious, but I couldn't resist this esnyx mod when I saw it on eBay.

Gus - That is a nice one! Just think it might have started out in life as one of these beauties! :)

Thanks! The tube that came with it was for a Day's Work -- so this was quite parted out. Live that sheep! Almost bought one last night, but bought a smooth ivory instead.

You must have climbed up a pole to place that Barlow for a picture, JP!!
Nice shot!!

I managed to put down my new HJ just for today and I am carrying this old Case, gifted to me by Paul, I recently drew Pauls lovely Dog Buddy - and I sharpened all my pencils when drawing Buddy with this knife-as Paul gifted me this some time ago.
It sharpens to a scalpel .... whew!!!

Thank you for the kind words. We appreciate your support, more than simple words. It seems it is not finished yet according to the assault this morning... We've been through that already, but we're never prepared enough... Seems this time they went a step too far.

For the picture I did not have to climb high, in fact the street is very steep and the light is about man height for the car in front.

Not a problem. I'm still learning how to do this, too, and I've been in and out here for 15 years!

Really, a stunning knife Jordan!
