What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I agree wth the other comments regarding the sanded surface. It is amazing how it now so closely resembles the much older Barlow knives. Certainly an interesting discovery.

I believe it is a good argument for using the heckamus out of these new scratted Ancients, bequeathing them to others who will do the same, and peeking in on them a hundred years or so down the road to evaluate the outcome. :)

Thanks, glad You like it! I didn't know what name to choose when I created my profile and haven't find out how to change it... mat

Wow, that's interesting. There's so much to learn on this thread...! Sorry for the user name, I haven't find out how to change it belatedly... mat

That Ancient looks great. Here is a mall barlow from Remington. A bit shorter than a 15, more like the Eric's Jack from CSC.

Thank You Charlie for making these great Barlows and for putting this interesting thread on the forum!
It's an honour You like the little modification on the handles...mat

You might need a seance to let us know how they look.

That is a really cool look. I've decided to use my ancient as an EDC. Maybe it'll start to look like that.

Here's what my barlow collection is up to as of today:

I'm hoping for another one in the mail today though :)

Today felt like a barlow day.

The barlow on the right just came from Charlie!
