What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Lloyd nailed it John.

You're missing these 4. :D:p:thumbup:

Beautiful Single Clip TC collection! It looks like you are missing four of the SINGLE Clip TC regular production folders to date. There are according to my count a total of thirteen (13) TC regular production single clips. Looks like you are missing the Inside/Outside cut bone (2013), Soup Bone 2013, Third Cut Stag (2014) and the Brazilian Rosewood (2014). In your picture are the two Clips 4th and 5th from the left the same Saddle Brown Saw Cut? You have two tube caps that say Antique Amber saw cut bone--caps 5 and 6 from left.

Best, Lloyd

Thanks all for the kind words. Big thanks to Lloyd for the detailed info and to Phil for the pic of my missing single clips.

Lloyd, agree with your assessment on the knife under cap 5. Bought the knife in question second hand, can trace the lineage to Charlie but somewhere along the way the caps got mixed up so probably have two saddle browns instead of two antique ambers. Maybe the owner of the antique amber with a saddle brown cap will see this and want to swap.

Phil, if you ever want to sell any of those 4, please give me an opportunity to buy. I'll take all 4. :)

Very nice TC collections being posted!

Been a little slow on the Barlow hunt recently, did find a Case red bone Grand Daddy Barlow in mint condition, 10 dot made in 1970. The red bone that Case used is one of my favorite handle materials. Hard to believe these knives are 46 years old now, man I'm getting old.

Chief John, great collection! Wow.

Phil, the "missing four" are real beauties. The Brazilian Rosewood is particularly stunning.

Augie, nice looking Case Red bone. Seems to have been well cared for.

Beautiful assemblage Phil! Those are tough ones to find these days. I have only one the Brazilian Rosewood. The production numbers suggest a difficult hunt for these beauties. According to factory production numbers the total for each variation is:

Soup-6
Inside Out saw cut-10
Brazilian Rosewood-11
3rd Cut Stag-22

John it looks like your best bet based on the production numbers is the 3rd Cut Stag. But I sure haven't seen any of these for sale lately. I am more a spear and sheep foot collector and have all most all of them and jut a few single clips. I will keep my eyes peeled for you. Lloyd

Nice work Lloyd and Philllll.

Chief- I wish I had an extra of the ones you are missing- I too do not have the whole lot.

This is a mind blowing thread - not only because of the STUNNING Knives - but the immense pride that I feel when showing just ONE of these knives yet alone the amount I am lucky to own- and I truly feel this with my other forum friends who display theirs.
It's just great.

Hey Aug my friend - that 71(? ) - cant quite count the dots - 9? ) Red Bone pure Sweeeeetheart! Wow Factor my friend!!!

Thank you for that augie matey!

Bob - great Barlow my friend - what a great knife!!!

Here is a lovely Old Kutmaster Utica Barlow - gratefully received as a gift from Mr.P Hilborn - and welcomed home to New Zealand......
Being Utica, ( now here we go - talk about sounding dumb here) the Bone is just beautiful - that is why I loved the Winchester Black Box specials from the 80's and 90's so much because of the Utica Bone used on them - this Barlow has saw cut Bone - but the saw cut is quite smooth - but it's there - its a wonderful deep deep Bone- which I am comparing an exact match - which I take this being some of the Original Utica Bone?
A knife that has led a very sheltered life, this really is a fantastic old Barlow! Photographed on some lovely Recycled Rimu and Heart Rimu - one of my favourite New Zealand Native Timbers
