What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

A new addition today. Even though it has a shield, I wonder if it fits the bill for the title of the thread...

I've had some difficulty dating it, and I can't be sure it isn't a Franken-Cat, but regardless of how original or old it is I think it will find a good home in my Barlow collection.

Interesting knife - I'd like to know more about it!
Have you posted it in Bernie Levine's forum?

Not yet, Charlie, but I'm also interested in learning about it. It has the most interesting bolsters and despite some "amateur jigging" near the end it's in fairly good shape, so before I slip it into the watch pocket I should probably research further. Thanks for the pointer!

After I turned up that Russell one-armed jack and reincorporated it into the Barlow drawer, I believe I discovered that my little orange Boker might be its "brother from another mother":

As an aside, I had always assumed the "479" on the Boker's bolster was a serial number, though I had no idea why a knife like that would be serialized. Now I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't the pattern number, since these do seem to be built on a different frame than the standard Delrin Boker 49x series. Anybody have any experience with these?

OK GT, KJ gave CC that KK? :D
...
:D:D Nice, Duncan! I wonder to what ridiculous limits this could be taken?
OK GT, KJ gave CC from BC that KK (not TC) B4 CC said TY?
PS: Sent PM; oops JK. CU in NZ, M8.

Nice collection, TsarBomba! I have to admit, I bought this thing not expecting too much, what with the plastic covers and thin, clip-on bolsters. I just liked the way it looked, and it was dirt cheap. But after wiping the spots rust off the blades, cleaning the grit out of the joints and putting an edge back on it, I have to say, I like this knife a lot! This thing's definitely going to see some pocket time.:D
Totally agree: that's a very impressive collection of advertising Barlows, TB!
And Barrett, I'm glad to see that you're learning to appreciate that fine old Imperial Barlow!

My case select granddaddy Barlow

Congrats, Jeff; that scratted Ancient looks spectacular! (All 3 are attractive, but the 2-blade in the center is the real eye-catcher for me!)

Thanks! Know which one(s) I'm missing? Or a lead on them? Trying to get one of each single clip variant.

John I went to take a breath and my chin just fell and hit the floor. That is one fine collection of Barlows.

John,

Beautiful Single Clip TC collection! It looks like you are missing four of the SINGLE Clip TC regular production folders to date. There are according to my count a total of thirteen (13) TC regular production single clips. Looks like you are missing the Inside/Outside cut bone (2013), Soup Bone 2013, Third Cut Stag (2014) and the Brazilian Rosewood (2014). In your picture are the two Clips 4th and 5th from the left the same Saddle Brown Saw Cut? You have two tube caps that say Antique Amber saw cut bone--caps 5 and 6 from left.
