What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I went to the Knife Days show in Wilmington, OH today with the express purpose of getting some more Barlows. I have been waiting months for this show. All of them are solid and in great condition. Here they are:

An Ulster. Apparently, they only made 10 of these. :)

A Cattaraugus, single bladed one.

And my favorite - A Schrade Cut Co. This one is a dream to hold. I really like the bone.

The whole gang together.

Very nice Remington and Boker Barlows Jon:thumbup:

Lloyd that Sta Sharp is just AMAZING. I only have one Sta Sharp and it's a whittler, it too is a well built knife:)

+5K!!:thumbup: Achingly beautiful Barlows, gentlemen!

I agree with Paul, that Camillus is fantastic.
...
aha I stand strong ;)
:D:D I admire the strength of your peanut butter convictions, Tim! (No matter how misguided they are. ;))

Wow, Dean, looks like the wait was well worth it; they ALL look like 10s to me! Congrats on your triple play!:thumbup:

Congratulations Dean! Those are some very nice Barlows but that Schrade and Catt are just outstanding:triumphant: When I was in Oregon recently for the OKCA show I looked for some Barlows and found a few but nothing of the caliber of those two. Lloyd

Beautiful Knives everyone, Dean Sir - like evertone has said, Man that Shrade is something else - love that Bone - great debate on what that is actually called as we know Schrades Peach-seed - has long forks that interweave almost - where Deans beautiful example - the jigging doesnt quite fork and extend out into each other ( if that is described right -I hope you get what I mean ).

Thank you Gary, Lloyd and Duncan.

Lloyd, I was surprised to find the Schrade (and the Catt). There were a lot more Barlows available today than a year ago. I didn't buy until I had seen every table. Even then, I missed the Schrade until late in my second walk through. There was also a HS&B, but I ran out of cash. :)

Duncan, the bone on the Schrade fascinates me. I've seen similar here on the porch but can't remember where.

Dean, of course I can't read your mind/memories and I'm almost a complete novice about vintage knives of any kind, but your new Schrade's bone reminds me of the 2014 Forum knife that Markesharp rehandled and gifted to me. I have no idea where he got his bone.

Isn't this kind of close to yours???

Man,this thread gets away from you fast, lots of nice Barlows this week.

Jon,love the Remingtons and Bokers.

Lloyd, that Sta-Sharp is really something, nice find.

Dean, looks like you had a great time at the show all great finds but that Shrade, oh my!

This is one I have with similar bone, don't know who made it as just stamped Made In USA,

Thank you Mike, Augie and Jack.

Augie, your Made in the USA Barlow also has great bone. The long-pull spearpoint also looks great.

Very pretty Barlow Augie! Love the bone jigging style and color on that one. Certainly looks like it has Schrade blood in it. Here is a Schrade Cut I have with a more free form or random jigging pattern or style and color than yours or Dan's. I like the blade shape and long pull also on yours. Lloyd

Some beautiful old barlows Dean, jigging on those old Schrades is really good.

Haven't done a group shot of the TCs in a while so here they are, my selective collection.

Mission accomplished, Dean!

Lloyd, GT and John, nice variations on the Schrade jigging. I've never been able to line up Schrade's various jig patterns chronologically, at least not 100%. There are several of them.

Formidable array of TCs, P&G!! Just beautiful!!

The Clip collection so far. Still need help with the missing ones, but extremely grateful for the help getting this far! I hope the next batch of 15s are clips! I need a fix! :D
