What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Both two blades I received don't have the PPP etch. In all the pictures of individuals posting the two blades, I haven't seen a single one with the PPP etch.

I have only seen the one blade with PPP etches, and have failed to see a single blade without it.

Hi everybody.
Whew it's been a while since I've posted on here- well TC's being part of my blood 'n all.

I will post up when Sue and I get back home to NZ - but I was lucky enough to have pre ordered a new Lick Creek Barlow/s.
Man..... I really love these wee guys- I tend to think of this as a Hilton Peanut.
Once again Charlie and Bill hit the nail on the head.

I started off trying to buy every TC Barlow that Charlie was to present to us lucky ones - But it got to the stage it was impossible - either financially OR by pure missing out because of demand.

I'm ok with this- if only I can get just one from each release - then I possibly will keep my finger on the pulse- just maybe.

I have been real fortunate - sorry Sue and I have been so fortunate to have been hosted by our friends Charlie and Joanne and also our friends Paul and Nanc. I have been absolutely STARVED of Bladeforums - so hopefully will have time to post a bit more when I get home.

I love coming in here and seeing every post their lovely knives with such enthusiasm and showing these lovely knives off.
After being a prolific poster on this thread it's almost a complete turn- around - simply because of work commitments- but what Im trying to say is Gee I miss this place !!

I've learn very recently even more so how wonderful Charlie is and how important to the knife world he is- his lovely lady inspires us with her art work and simply herself.

I have talked a lot about Sue and my selves visit with our Good friend Jack- and that has and will forever stay with us- our stay with Paul and Nanc has just been absolutely wonderful.
More to come about Sue and my fantastic holiday with a wee bit of knife stuff included of course.

One thing I missed was my friend Charlie holding old Flat Belly 2012 redbone clippy that was chipped whe I foolishly leant my knife to a work colleague- therefore having to stone some blade away to remove 3 chips - well when Jack and I visited Stan - we photographed the man himself holding one of Charlie's TC's ( flat belly before he became flat belly) - when I got back to the hotel I realised I forgot to ask Charlie- flatbelly's birth farther - for a photo of Charlie holding this well traveled knife.
Keep posting these great knives everyone

Treasures aren't always in financial terms that's for sure.

:D
Sooooo, I was just looking through my oldest Barlows to find examples for these recent comparison pics, and I came across these, and the name "Ragg Stagg" came to mind!!
I put a Ragg Bone in the second pic for comparison!

They are such nice people - too bad their time here was short!

Duncan, Did you let Sue have one of the cookies or were they both yours?! ;) :D Just teasing of course. Looks like you guys had a nice time. Thank you for sharing the photo, Charlie.

Great photo of the three of you Charlie and the scans of the old 1800's barlows are priceless. Looks like this run's 14 was spot on with the one's of olde as always. I doubt I should even be surprised at this point? ;)

Can't wait to see some shots of your 14's Duncan :D Hope you got some Ragg :)

Beautiful walnut barlow with history behind it Bob

Phil, that is one raggy Barlow, very nice.

Bob, great score on the walnut TC, congrats!

Duncan, good to see you posting again, sounds like you had a wonderful trip.

Duncan, Did you let Sue have one of the cookies or were they both yours?! ;) :D

Well spotted Jake! :D

Oh well - Sue and I are dragging our tails a bit. We have left Canada and Alaska- and said goodbye to Charlie and Joanne in lovely Vancouver- now we have left beautiful North Dalota - Valley City where Paul and Nanc live:(

On our way to San Fransisco.

Jake my friend- Sue ate both those bikies - didn't leave me a single crumb- When Charlie and Joanne and Sue stood up and turned to leave the table I managed to pick up some scraps without them seeing:thumbup:;)

Jack matey - In Canada they gave a pretty good citizen identification system - people with amazing talent, good looks and high IQ's get to wear green tags- I found mine on the ground just before Joanne took the photo lol:thumbup:

Thank you Philllll, Augie, Bob and Ryouchijtx- I will post up some more later- Sue and I are in between flights.
Take Care everyone.

Fantastic Duncan! :D You have got me with tears of laughter in my eyes, and a big grin on my face. Not for the first time my friend :)

Duncan and I early this morning before their flight departed. Nanc and I had a WONDERFUL time with Duncan and Sue during their visit:thumbup:

I'm holding a 2013 Spear front, Pen behind TC in ebony. There's history in the knife that it resided with Duncan in NZ until I was able to find a replacement for the single Spear he lost. Duncan's holding a 2015 New Day Spey with Pen behind clad in ebony that he gifted to me when they were released.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Charlie as his TC releases were very instrumental in bringing Duncan, Sue, Nanc and myself together. Here's to the power of a great knife and great friends that will last a lifetime!!!

To say we had fun is a huge understatement :D

One can sense a Barlow Man when his enthusiasm over a prime knife all but overshadows the intensity of the pitched battle in the near distance.

(My money's on the Rex.)
