What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Thanks for all all your comments :D
It's always frustrating not to be able to show the reality of a knife.
The horn is great, sanguinata as Waynorth said it but to reinforce this red shading Roberto put a thin red G10 sheet .
There is no nail nick because when the knife is closed there is enough place to pinch the blade. The spring is perfect. Enough flexible at the beginning without being soft and very strong at the end to block seriously the blade opened.

Here you will see all the layers of the handle :

I really hope that this one is only the first because it's a great success :)

Here you can see it close to its french cousin the Langres

This might be a question only waynorth waynorth can answer, but anybody can weigh in.

Can we expect another run of TC barlows in 2019?? I’m just curious on what folks think.

Everyone hopes, nobody knows ...

I'm hoping we will see one in 2019, if not two!! Most likely #15s.

Personally, I would like to see a run of TC Barlow's tied to these.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Likely a hefty Harness Jack on the #86 pattern - if GEC gets to it!!??

A sturdy, hefty Harness Jack would be quite handy & most welcome.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Also, if TC's should happen? The 2 blade version would be appreciated IMHO. ;)

I have my best guess, though no clue in fact. If I had to play in a casino, I'd put a coin on n° 29...86 sounds good too! Let's wait and see what comes! :)

waynorth waynorth - Charlie, thanks for the reply! I’ll echo the idea of a 2-blade TC in 2019. .

PS - at least two of the recent run 14’s with the smoothed edges have popped up on eBay. The seller is advertising them as “factory error” models.

That is how they were presented. A "happy" factory error.

TC Barlow ALERT!!!

Re: the smooth-finished TC #14 Barlows (Lick Creek); The “Smoothies”!

GEC ran out of parts (blades) so while dealers got their knives, I had to wait for my shipment. When the newer blades were finished, and they got back into production to finish my shipment, the hafting guys finished the knives smooth instead of smooth/beveled like the bulk of the knives. So it was a “happy” factory error.

You will find either a green dot on the white label, or a green marker through the number on the black label. About 50 (10%) of the knives have this finish, so are “firsts” of course, and rarer than the beveled ones. I put these “smooth” ones in my archive!

They were mostly sold directly from me, because they were in my shipment. They are all gone now, but if you come across one, this is the explanation. A lot of them went to my Canadian customers!!
I'll post comparisons later today.

Thanks,

Charlie Campagna

I sent a few of those "happy factory errors" to a couple of USA dealers. (I prefer to call them smoothies).
So, I guess they are loose in the world!!
Every run, some knives wind up immediately on auction sites . . . . . . .we do live in a free enterprise economy. I have explored trying to sell to "end users" only, but it's impossible.
"Caveat Emptor" . Pay fair, but not too much!!!

Hi Charlie,

Shaving is about the only thing you can't (or shouldn't :D) do with this knife!

The blade profile is one of the best, plus I always get a lot of compliments on it.

Most think it must have belonged to my Dad or Grandfather (I'll be 60 soon ).

It's one of my most favorite pocket knives. :)

Happy Thanksgiving & Good Health (to you and your family).

Rock that barlow. !!

Due to the Challenge I have I've grown to like that style harness jack quite a bit. To be honest if a GEC longpull spear point with an Empire style punch came out, I'd try really hard to make it my first GEC!
Edit: I should look around before I post lol, a 77 Washington HJ is super close
