What MaQes A Chopper

:D
WelQome Q!!

I'd have thought you hung around at the Swamp long enough to know what maQes a good chopper. In the simplest terms, Rats make good choppers :p

Thanks Rupestris and I do know that. However, I have become obsessed with chopping. Specifically with 7 to 7.5 inch bladed choppers and I want to know of all things that chhop...for they are good. Falkniven, Busse, SWKW, Bowies of all sort make and model...I even ordered an RD7...I know it has limits...but it's the size I want...and it was so cheap...so I bought one. I want to explore all things which chop. I want to become a Chopologist majoring in Chopology at Chop U...but when I shop for my high-end chop I will most likely shop Busse or Rat till I drop unless this Scrap Yard things gets interesting. I'm thinking $400.00 is my absolute not one dime more limit for my high-end chopper. Chop chop chop...then I saw a Desert Natural Outlaw on eBay. I wish I hadn't seen it Rupestris 'Qause now I can't stop thinking about it. Desert Natural Outlaw. At 6 inches it is one inch less than I want but ohhhhhhhhhh...it's sooooooo darn puuurrrrrdy.

It tends to serve as a virtual mirror reflecting each individual's point of view and emotional makeup. Those who have humor react with humor. Those who are focused on the point concentrate on the subject matter at hand. Those those who are judgemental and angry express their anger. Ad infinatum.
So it's... kind of a way of... trolling?

Look into the Becker line of knives, BK-7, BK-9, Brute ect.

Good choppers and reletively inexpensive.

This is an oxymoron in my eyes. If you want a "chopper", then you want something with seriously more than a 7.5 inch blade. I generally want at least 13" or 14" of blade, and go up from there.

depends what you plan on choppping. I forgot my ax last weekend and chopped a bunch of trees / limbs up to about 3-4 inches in diameter with a BK-7.

A bigger knife or axe would have made things easier, but the 7 inch blade on the BK-7 worked fine. A few chopps and a good swift kick and firewood was had. You might be surprised what you can chop with a reletively small blade.

I will admit, I wished I had had something a little bigger though. Its a trade off, if you are hiking around a lot, I think a 7 inch blade is much easier to carry than a 13"

You do need a blade bigger than 7.5" to have a dedicated chopper. (unless that blade is extremely wide, heavy, and forward balanced.)

The "Q" thing is pretty tedious. I find myself skipping over most of your posts because of it. Why not show a little respect for your fellow forumites and drop it? It is unneccessary & annoying.

Trolling? No sir! I do not post outrageous messages intended to bait. Nor do I delight in sowing discord or inspire flaming rhetoric or disQussion. Not I sir. Nope. An extraneous Q is all you'll get out me sir.

As far as the extra Q thing goes, it doesn't really bother me, but it does make you look like a jackass IMO. Its just stupid.

Thats just one mans opinion though.

Well, his posts are not bad; they seek information and aren't spammy. This is the internet, so isn't it a place to feel free to expose your, dare I say, Quirks?

Thanks for sharing. Got any good information about Choppers? Maybe you can share what your favorite Chopper is and why you like it?

My favorite chopper is an 18" WWII model from Himalayan Imports. It chops incredibly well. I almost hurt myself badly the first time I used it because it just chopped right through a tree limb I thought would take several chops.

I don't have a large (18-20") Ang Khola, though, which many say is the "king" of khukri choppers. I only have the 12" and 16.5" chiruwa (full tang). The forward curve and weight make them effective. As Cliff noted though, they are heavy compared to a knife.

Sounds like we're pretty much in agreement then. You can do some work with a 7" blade, but I'd only use one if I forgot my real "chopper" at home. ;) :D

I carry my 24" Bowie all the time out and about; often 12 hours a day for several days in a row while working out in the fields. The top arm of its crossguard digging into my "love handle" bothers me more than the length. :)

To answer the question simply.... Himalayan Imports makes a bunch of great choppers!

Peace-
Cam

There was some excellent information in this post, but I replaced all the letters with Qs so I can consider myself unique and stylish.

I agree, I don't think of a 7" knife as a chopper. More of an all-arounder that can do everything but isn't great at big-knife things like chopping. But if that's what worQs for you, great. (say, that does feel kinda good)

Chopping? hmmmmm. An Axe?

Ah axes. I have proQured 3 Gergers, 2 Fiskers, and a K5 Hawk/sipke. I want to try chopping with the K5 but I have to sharpen it first...it came with a very dull edge which is the way I suspect Mr. Killian wanted it (perhaps because of liability issues?).

I bow to you Rat Finklestein. I do not submit to the name callers and nasty posts.
