I recently got one of the old Schrade Century knives for cheap. These were Schrade's German manufactured Swiss army knife clones, made from the late 1980's all the way up until 1999 when they were discontinued. Supposedly some of the parts were actually made by Victorinox. The one I got was the Endeavor, model CN111. It's a single layer 91mm direct copy of the Victorinox Waiter, except it has a phillips screwdriver instead of a corkscrew.
Originally I had intended to replace the Century's scales with 91mm Victorinox scales, but I found conflicting information about this. I found one claim that the Victorinox scales will fit because they are compatible and exchangeable/interchangeable with the Century knife's scales. I also found another claim that the Victorinox scales won't fit because the Century's center pin is a different size and is located in a slightly different spot. I don't know what to believe and I'm not willing to risk ruining the scales by pulling them off to find out. If the center pin is an issue, then I suppose I could modify the Victorinox scales to make them fit, but then they won't be tight in the middle the way they should be.
Victorinox once made an 84mm knife called the Apprentice. It was the Waiter with a phillips. They also made an 84mm Electrician which was basically the same as the Apprentice except that it had the electrician blade instead of the combo bottle/can opener tool. I'd much rather have a couple of those to be honest.
It's apparently very simple to mod a Waiter into an Apprentice. I even have a spare backside phillips tool to do it with. I just don't have a brass pin to use as a replacement, and I don't have any experience with peening.
