What multitool or SAK did you buy today

dirty, neglected, slightly abused Super Tinker arrived the other day. Can’t imagine why, with two screwdrivers, someone would try to pry something with the small pen blade so hard they bent the tip. The toothpick is useless except as a knife cleaning tool. Of course, on a used knife, who wants to use it as an actual toothpick anyway!

Pen blade tip is straight now, and the whole thing is getting a good oil soak on the joints. I’ll be spending some time sharpening it and continue scraping out the detritus that shows up as the oil loosens it and washes it out.

Got this bad boy today.
Second hand Huntsman with nylon scales, still has factory edges and scary sharp.
I was going to swap the scales to cellidor plus, but after reading the posts on here about the durability of nylon, I ditched that idea.
Besides, I like the texture of these and see no advantage.
Strong contender to push my vintage Camper into retirement though.

I was trying to get parts for a custom SAK, but ended up with a really nice vintage Explorer in fantastic condition. It needed some light cleaning and some sharpening, but it looks like it was barely used and it probably sat in a box somewhere collecting dust for a few decades.

It has:

-aluminum tipped tweezers
-reamer with a pronounced angled tip and no sewing eye
-shield does NOT appear to be nickel silver
-fluted 4 turn corkscrew
-key ring on the spacer for the small blade
-no half-stop on the cap lifter
-no pin slot in the back scale
-magnifier has bevel on one side

The tweezers could have been added from a different SAK and probably aren't reliable for dating.

Based on the reamer and the shield, I think this Explorer is from the year 1980.

I am just going off of internet sources. I don't know anything about this stuff. Regardless, scoring a set of aluminum tipped tweezers was definitely worth it. I will probably keep this SAK and look for a different one to use for parts.

I think I'm going to pick up a Costco special this week for one of my students. The Leatherman Bolster. That is if I don't hear any bad reviews. The price is certainly right.

Would love to see some pics:)
Okay, will do. As soon as it gets here. Shouldn't be more than a week. I'll be sure to put a ruler or a measuring tape next to it in at least one photo. Also, fingers crossed🤞but I *may* also be getting my hands on something else somewhat rare-ish soon... *possibly*. Don't wanna spoil it. 😏

I've now confirmed it... it's an original factory built Scientist. I should be getting it very soon.

Honestly at this point I couldn't care much less about adding to my collection. Very soon I will have every SAK that matters to me. Thankfully it's a pretty short list. Anything beyond that will merely be some extra icing on the cake, and I'm also at a point where I know I can build my own custom SAKs to suit my needs/desires.

I will be getting my hands on the 84mm Golfer 🏌️‍♂️this monday and I'll be able to snap a few pics of it then.

Would love to see some pics:)
Here you go. :)

Based on my research, this seems to be the most commonly available version of the 84mm Golfer. It has a stainless steel shield, an early version of the combo tool with no half-stop, a fluted 4 turn corkscrew, the usual crossbow on the tang of the knife, and no nail file on the back of the scissor layer. If you were looking for an 84mm Golfer, then this is what you would be most likely to find. Other versions of the 84mm Golfer can supposedly have a secondary blade instead of the combo tool, or a later version of the combo tool, and some 84mm Golfers will also have a back side fingernail file. The ones with a file on the back are more desirable.

This is a close-up of the old combo tool from the Golfer next to the most current version of the combo tool from a Waiter. The top is angled instead of curved. The tip is also different. The newer combo tool is better for opening cans than the old one is.
