What pattern would you like to see in 2016 as the Trad Forum Knife

Sowbelly or Barlow would both be cool! Whatever pattern it is, I hope GEC makes it! (and it has a caplifter!)

This thread is going to be about what knives you guys would like to see in a 2016 knife, if there is one. If it starts going off topic from what the OP asked, such as who is or is not going to get it done, posts will be removed and warnings and infractions will be issued. I mean it.

A tuxedo pattern is definitely one that I would only buy as a Forum knife, but that said, it could be a good knife. Nickle bolsters, ebony scales, and a bowtie shield. Wouldn't that be a great knife for formal days.

That's pretty funny! The reality is, I'd still be in for a couple just because it's the forum knife!!

But, since we're dreaming here:rolleyes:....this is what I sketched up last year. Gunstock with a combo punch/cap lifter. I still like the idea.

I don't have much use for a punch myself, but I do like the looks of that sketch. I never really got the appeal of the gunstock pattern, but with that cap lifter sitting so low in the handle it looks lust right. Nice pattern idea

I like the Lanny's clip idea. Who's cutting all this rope anyway?????

I know somebody who won't be splicing the mainbrace... :p

I really like the gunstock with the spear and punch...no cap lifter! Lol.

Personally I think that is a beautiful gunstock rendering and could be a fantastic knife "in the steel". That I only have one gunstock, a big NKCA club knife I won't carry, only adds to the appeal.

That or a single blade 15 Barlow with a nicely scripted BF stamped on the bolster. Simple, classic and it would appeal to many.

I'm right there with you with that. I was even kicking the same idea around in my own big empty cranium earlier in the other thread, GMTA! :D Maybe use a similar font to the old OVBs. Or how about finding out the Schrade "S" font, the BF knife could be an homage to Earl! :o :D

If folks think that's too small, something like onespdfrk's gunstock idea would be nice.

Jack, I also like something along the lines of your whaler.

Or maybe something like the Swayback Jack......but with a punch.......Oh I'm all over the place today. :D

:)

Something between these two is what I picture! :D

A friend of mine inherited an old Case Whaler like this one

And I really liked it. The simplicity of the design and handle material actually really made the knife pop for me. There is something very nice about a straight-forward simple knife with a handle you can feel fine about beating up. For me, that is the nicest thing about the New-England Whaler/Sailor's knives.

(Not that scrimshawed ivory handles on those types of knives aren't awesome as well)

What a great idea! How about cloning Earl?! :D

It is generally a single blade design that makes it into my pocket; so that would be my first choice...preferably a wharnie or sheepsfoot; but a spearpoint would be okay.

Equal-End pen pattern, 3 1/4" to 3 5/8", with a spear and coping, or clip and coping, or a low-riding sheepsfoot and pen. (You know that one would be unique!)

Who will volunteer to handle orders, purchasing and distribution?

I, most likely, will not. :(

Ed seems to be hitting the nail on the head for me with each post, but I'll say I would LOVE a sowbelly three blade stockman style (wharnie or sheepsfoot main?) or a good swayback EO sheepsfoot rope like knife anyway.

I feel like the forum knives are usually the place to produce weird and uncommon designs, thats why I wouldn't want a stockman with clip main.

I am very grateful for the job you did on the 2015 knife.

But that said, this is a thread for fantasizing, nothing more.

Thank you for your hard work. It really is appreciated.

Not the place for this discussion please. I'm sure it was a Herculean task and we all appreciate your efforts in the past, Barry. What will be will be.

Back to the knives guys.

As much as I thought that would be a hideous abomination  (and the fact I don't care too much for the little 'nut :D), it's actually a cool idea.

So, r8shell, this one's for you!

I'm not a 'nut fan, but I love that you made a mockup of the pattern

How about a small cigar frame with a Scandi ground spear and coping blade secondary on one spring? Blade forums could be stamped onto the flats of the spear much like some of the Northwoods knives.
