What pen or pens do you carry?

I started carrying a Stainless Embassy Elite pen about a year and half ago after I broke tow Parker Jotters at work. It is built like a tank and uses Fisher refills. It writes very nice but is not good for long periods of writing due to the heft.

I keep a Seltzer Goods 7 Year Pen on my desk at work because it is useful and inexpensive and I carry a Tuff Writer Precision Press in black. The Tuff Writer is just about my favorite pen of all time, including Montblanc, Kwaco, and Rotring(but I love those all as well). It uses a German made mechanism and it has wonderful balance. It fits Parker refills which means it readily accepts the Fisher refills, and I must say, they have really done a great job about fixing the "blobbiness" of previous refills...very smooth, no blobs on this one.

The Tuff Writer is exceptional to write with, BUT it also has a great heft that makes it work well as a defensive tool, should this be necessary. So glad I picked this up!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

The Uniball Power Tank is also a great option. It has all of the benefits of fisher space pen in terms of pressurized ink that performs in a variety of conditions, and you can get a box of them online.. so you don't have to feel bad about losing them. Plus the tire-like grip is comfortable and rugged.

I actually carry the surefire clicky pen model iv. I have been using it non-stop for a couple months. I actually picked it up after trying it out in person. I find pens really vary and don't like to buy online after a few mistakes. Being a full time masters student, I write a lot and have already gone through one ink nib. So far it has been my favorite pen to write with. Has just the right heft and feel for my hand. The clicky mechanism works great. I'm often working in the hospital with my schooling and have to do a lot of charting so I need a pen that is lidless and tough. Although expensive I find it more than worth the cash.

Surefire ewp-02 (my first edc pen, one i use for notes. Imma college student), brass investigator pen (my most carried as of late)

Small space pen everyday. Para cord on clip really helps keep it from slipping out of my pocket.

Parker and a Right in thr Rain. Don't really like the ink in the Right in the Rain but it is handy and works o.k. with the note pads.

Great thread guys! I'm in college, so I do a lot of writing. I ended up buying 3 of the Pentel "classic" .05 mechanical pencils, They work great, but you have to tighten the tip every so often (it will break your lead) then when the lead is getting close to being done, I usually pull out a 3/8 piece of the lead out to throw out.

I use this pencil most of all for school. The things you have to remember is that the eraser on this type of pencil is only for "fine" erasing work, and you need to carry a large eraser. Also the eraser on the pencil looks long when you pull it out, but I have found that only the "factory" edge of the eraser is viable, and that its best to change them. (I have had my eraser ruined multiple times by tutors and instructors and such).

I also bought a pack of the "erasable" colored pencils (5 terms ago), which I use the red and my GF uses the orange for contrast in note taking.

I finally settled on the Pilot V5s' for pens after trying the V7s' they are thinner, and are easy to fill in boxes on papers (like columnar or something similar).

Just picked up a Sailor 1911 fountain pen. Beautiful nib and ink flow and half the price of a Mont Blanc.

Which Mont Blanc model? Why are you comparing them? They're drastically different pens; each (assuming you mean either of the MB icons - the 146 or 149) fantastic in its own way.

To call a Mont Blanc and a Sailor 1911 drastically different is a bit of a stretch. Visually they are almost identical, size varies based on model but the 146 and 1911L are pretty close. Filling system can vary, but the 1911 Realo is a piston filler like the MB. War are the drastic differences you're thinking of?

Lamy Safari with Noodler's bulletproof black. Cheap fountain pen, gifted from a good friend, replaced all my expensive tactical pens.

Well, not specifying which models you're comparing makes it less of a stretch. Look at MB's writer's editions and compare them to ... which Sailors? Look at this Sailor and tell me which MB to compare it to. They are very different companies aesthetically.
They use different materials (MB's "precious resin" is more brittle but takes a better polish, MB's nibs use 18kt - they used use my preferred 14kt - while Sailor usually uses 21kt). While the torpedo shape is usually equated to the MB 146/149, there have been other brands/models that use it, too. As for a piston (not my favorite filling system), I'm not sure how their construction differs but I know MB has changed theirs over the past decade or two (some feel for the worse).
The writing sensation (flow, nib feel, ergonomics) are very different between the Realo and the 146/9 (whichever is closer to you); neither is clearly better but, at least to a pen guy, they are very different. Heck, there are significant differences between a 1985 MB149 and a 2014 MB 149.
In the end, why use the phrase "...and half the price of a Mont Blanc" to describe your pen? There are great writers for far less and for far more than either the PM 146/9 and the Realo. I haven't used my MB149 for at least 4 years as I have pens, both less and more valuable, that I greatly prefer.
