I saw someone trying to correct someone telling them that a knife isn't a weapon it's a tool. I think they forget a weapon is a tool. That's like saying a handgun is a tool not a weapon. Yeah it's a tool used to target the human species.

My knives have always been more of a weapon and a tool towards tactical defense.

I mean I used to do a lot of fishing and that's the only times I need a tool for cutting.

I don't need a sebenza to open my bag of potato chips.

I also worked construction many years. A box cutter and my framing hammer claw was more useful then any knife i had was.

In for one what? This was not a sales post that you can parody.

Your statement shows you make no logical sense lol.

Usually any knife I carry I atleast consider its ability to be used as a weapon in an SD scenario. I live in Canada where I cannot really carry a gun to protect myself so my knife is my line of defense for when things go really south. Of course 99.9% of the time the knife is used simply as an EDC cutting tool. Therefor my ideal knife can be used for both SD and EDC. That is why the CQC7 has been one of my favourite knives for such a long time. It is true it is abit bulky for EDC use but it is such a great SD knife with its wave feature. I need to get an HD7 which is more narrow and pocketable.

My knife is a tool to be used for utilitarian tasks. I NEVER carry a knife as a weapon. Now dont get me wrong five guys jump me and they pull weapons it can become one but i never carry one with that as the intent. I disagree that weapons are tools. Weapons are weapons. The purpose being to harm another living thing. A tool can be improvised as a weapon. But they dont become such without intent.

I deal with a lot of tape, zip ties and cardboard at work which is what my modern folders get used for. The traditional I carry does the whittling and light food prep.

Let's see:

Pocket knives - cutting thread, packing tape, plastic packaging, zip-ties, shrink-wrap, paper, cardboard, string, shaping wood or other soft materials, and occasionally slicing up an apple.

Kitchen knives - slicing, dicing, chopping, cutting, parting, boning, trimming, mincing, skinning, peeling, paring, carving, filleting of various fruits, vegetables, herbs, proteins.

Most of my regularly carried knives are not suitable for use as weapons - usually small non-locking slipjoints. I know nothing about using a knife as a weapon so it's not something I tend to think about.

They are a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom.
Just kidding that's a quote from Wild at Heart. They cut stuff man! Sheesh!

I use my knives for cutting or piercing anything that needs to be cut or pierced. Sometimes, depending on the knife, I may even split or scrape something with it.

I thought of some other uses: stripping insulation off of wires, cutting roll tape into strips, cutting the foil on the necks of wine bottles.

My handgun is just a tool. I only use it to open doors. Both physically and psychologically. ;)

Like others, I don't carry a knife primarily as a weapon. But that's not to say that I wouldn't use any and all "tools" available to me in the event I need a weapon. Be it handgun, knife, stick, or keys wedged between fingers.

I use my knives to cut things. Since I work in an office, it is much more rare for me to use it now than when I worked in a restaurant.

For the rest of your post, let's break down the definition of a tool and weapon. Below are the first entries from Merriam Webster online.

Definition of tool
1
a : a handheld device that aids in accomplishing a task

Definition of weapon
1
: something (as a club, knife, or gun) used to injure, defeat, or destroy

Even though the definition of weapon includes "knife" as an example, I would still call it a tool before I call it a weapon. By definition, weapons have just one intent which is to cause harm. I have never used my knives to harm another individual yet have used it countless times for other tasks as a hand held tool.

A handgun is both a tool and a weapon. It doesn't have to be used to target people. Most of my handguns are 22's. I shoot holes in stuff and not people. Not exactly the weapon of choice for most people in terms of self defense.

My knives have always been more of a weapon and a tool towards tactical defense.
Well good for you. I own some fighting knives but they have never been used or carried. I thought they looked cool at the time and I bought them one at a time over the years.

I seldom use a knife fishing unless it is to try to get a splinter out of myself. That's why I often have a SAK with me fishing... splinter removal. I use clippers/nippers to cut my line when needed, not a knife. Some people want a Sebenza to open a bag of chips. Not me, but people are different. Guess you use your "tactical knife" to open your chips? I personally seldom use a knife to open a bag of chips. Just pull them open.

Leave it to "the Needler" to start a thread like this. Knives can be both a weapon and a tool. It depends on how you use it just like your framing hammer.

Semantics, matter of perspective, opinions.:thumbup:
Aren't you the one who has SAKs opening in his pockets? No matter.
A knife is poor choice as a weapon ... unless you are trained. Or, the person you are fighting is a weak fighter to begin with.

Crap, I got reeled in. :D

Paging killgar, I repeat, paging killgar.

I use my knives as tools.
