What purposes does your knives do for you?

I just use sak's for cutting my nails and filing them. Maybe cut some fishing line or scrap or poke somethings. Not a good weapon for sure.
My luck if Iever depend on a sak that pos will open in my pocket and cut or poke me.

Those things are a pain when you want them open they rip your nails off. When their in my pocket it's like a automatic knife. Even I'm like WTF how?

That's my plan for using a knife in self defense. If a bad guy is approaching me, I'll run up and shove a couple of SAK Classics into his pockets and then just stand back and watch while they wreak their mayhem on him.

One warning given.

90% of the time the knives you guys carry are toys. Box cutters, electricians knives, multi-tools used on a job? Those are tools. If you make your living with your knife ? It's a tool. If you go out of your way to make a living with your knife? You're just good at using it to have fun. Good for you. Do you fly fish? Hunt big game? All that gear? Toys.

It's a toy. One I've been carrying in one form or another when allowed by the existing authorities since 1955.

I have absolutely no idea what you're trying to say. A Swiss Army Knife is not automatic. Not even remotely. And "their" is the plural usage for belonging to you. What you want is "you are" or the contraction "you're".

Usually any knife I carry I atleast consider its ability to be used as a weapon in an SD scenario. I live in Canada where I cannot really carry a gun to protect myself so my knife is my line of defense for when things go really south. Of course 99.9% of the time the knife is used simply as an EDC cutting tool. Therefor my ideal knife can be used for both SD and EDC. That is why the CQC7 has been one of my favourite knives for such a long time. It is true it is abit bulky for EDC use but it is such a great SD knife with its wave feature. I need to get an HD7 which is more narrow and pocketable.
Here in canada carrying a knife for self defence purposes makes it a prohibited weapon just a FYI incase you didn't already know.

That's when you say it's not a prohibited weapon, it's a tool that can be used as a weapon for self defense.

It's like a spare tire or a seat belt. Just because my tactical knives don't stab human flesh doesn't defeat it's intention as a tool thats a weapon.

I don't keep a big fixed blade in my car for cutting apples. I'm not a hunter either. I wouldn't tell that to a Canadian officer. I'd tell him this $400 dollar knife here is used for nothing but admiring and proceed showing him the knife mint and never used. Or tell them the truth you use your sebenza for cutting fruit and tape.

Also I already know a gun is a better weapon. That is another subject lol.

Fair enough I guess, I just feel that as knife enthusiasts we need to read and understand the wording of our laws as they can be a bit strange.

Whatever knife you choose, make sure it's made of Rosta-Frei steel. Accept no substitutes!

I use my knife to open packages, cut rope, twine, plastic straps, Cardboard, cut old rubber tubing, Cut bait for fishing, cut fishing line, hunting etc... Hope to never use it in self defense but its there if I ever absolutely no other options had to.

It is either one dependant upon what it was made for. My slipjoints are for cutting 98% of the things that need cut. My lockback are for heavy cutting or self defense as needed.

I use my knives for cutting chores. They are only a weapon of last resort. At that point so is a hammer, my car keys, pens, and anything else I can find . I prefer to use my brain 1st and keep out of situations where I would need a weapon to survive. So far so good.

I'm a little ashamed of myself for making a semi-serious response in this thread. I beg the knife-gods to forgive me.

Didya ever notice it's never more than 29 minutes away from 4:20 somewhere in the world? Fascinating concept. Makes me want Doritos...

Certain knives are made to be tactical. A punching knife wasn't made to cut tape, cardboard and fruits. It was a tool designed for self defense.

A samurai sword wasn't used for toothpicks or opening up packages and prepping dinner.
