What role for the JUNGLAS?

I have seen alot of threads and discusions about batoning lately, and alot of talk about the Junglas. It seems that alot of people are anti Batoning, and don't see the Junglas filling this role. I have also seen Jeff talk about the Machete filling a Chopper role better as well. So it leads me to wonder......Why was the Junglas even made? So many talk about having one for the "COOL FACTOR" but is that really a good reason to produce a blade?

So what if any role do you guys see the Junglas filling? For me it will be my chopper,I also have an RTAK II, that I used for this purpose, and it has done well. With that said, I would also like to get the Lite Machete to try it out.

Tony.

To me the Junglas is a cool factor tool. If I want to process wood I want an axe or hatchet. If I want to clear a trail, I want a machete. If you're thinking about one talk to Jeff, he'll talk you out of it. Also they are mandatory for rage-quitting ESEE, you have to give it away when you get angry. At this point I'd like to say I'd like to put my name next on the Junglas list after Guyon...

Adam

The role was for drug enforcment officers in South America, to my understanding. Imagine, you have a machete, a knife, and a weapon all in one. You could bushwack your way to a crop, chop down the plants and slice up a druglord. Cool factor, yup.
Batoning aside, you can still use it to build a shelter, clear a trail, kill a boar. Maybe not the "best" tool for every particular job, meaning, a machete is lighter, easier to swing and more effective. A 4 or 6 would be a better knife all around.
I own one, and like it, but, my Ontario 12" Cutlass machete is a better chopper. It's longer, and has more weight out at the tip.
The Junglas has an awesome handle and sheath, the Ontario does not. I would love to have the Junglas with 12", and the fatter tip.

At this point I want to say it doesn't matter what the truth is. Any response that involves chopping up drug-lord's is grade A no. 1.

Adam

PS: Might as well just close the thread at this point. Also, have this response etched into a plaque and framed.

I think it makes a great all around camp knife in my assortment of knives. Heavy duty chopper for wood processing, butcher knife, and cool factor  I take it on all campouts and use it ! Did I have to have it ? Probably not but it has it's place for me.

Well I got a good deal on one, on another forum, so I hope it's as COOL as it looks. Maybe I'll just save it for the Zombie Apocolypse. I just couldn't pass on it....Know what I mean!

Tersfeld,

If I got a good deal on one I'd never turn it down. For all that I don't think it's practical I hear it is just fun as all get out to use. Turning down a Junglas to me would be like saying, "no sir, I don't want to shoot that machine-gun." Or "nahh, I'm not up for driving a Bugatti Veyron today." Have fun a-choppin.

God bless,
Adam

The first ESEE knife I bought was the Junglas. To be truthful, I was a little intrigued by it. I have always felt more "comfortable" using a large knife more so than an hatchet/axe (grew up on a farm, parents would let us use knives out the ying-yang, no hatchets or axes though, go figure), so maybe this is where it stems from. The Junglas fits great on the side of my Falcon-II, the handle is one that actually fits my hand correctly, & I have used it for almost everything you need for camping/hiking/fishing/woods bumming or just around our property. It's just a matter of personal taste & what makes one feel comfortable & secure using it for their needs. It would be a shame if we all had to try and adjust to the same vehicle, clothing, food, furniture, etc. without the choices that are available to us, and besides, it is one of the best made knives I have used.
Be safe.

I played with a hatchet all the time growing up. Dad always warned me to be careful with it, showing me a scar on his right knee where one skipped off a piece and bit him. After years of tooling around with the thing I went camping at Laurel Fork in TN with some friends. Nice new Fiskar hatchet skipped off a piece I was splitting for the fire and hey... there's a clump of skin, fat, muscle and sinew hanging out of my leg. Go figure! It's taken me a while to get back to where I can mentally bring myself to use them, but they are great tools.

Adam, good example of choices. You use what makes you feel most comfortable same as I would, and my chances of 10" of steel biting into a piece of wood vs. 4"-5" makes me feel even more comfortable (especially when the eyesight isn't what it used to be . . . :D ).
Hope you did not do too much damage & everything healed ok.
Be safe.

I like big blades. Period.

Oh, what do I use it for. Chopping, batonning, and anything else that I might need to do when I am playing in the woods. :)

I am surprised to see no Zombie Protection answer. I got an awesome deal on a RTAK II with the RAT emblem etching from my local knife shop.

My reasons:
1. Zombie Protection
2. Eventual boyfriend initial meeting and deterrent tool
3. Cool factor
4. And yes, to baton for fun.

Tony.

If you already have the RTAK II, then you already know what the Junglas is for. They are the same exact type of knife. It's a big knife light enough to use as a machete but shorter with a high quality blade rather than a stamped thin one. I think of mine as a big camp knife.

That is basically how I look at it also. I was just surprised to see lately alot of people against using it like that. Seemed like most just wanted it for The COOL FACTOR.

While my only Esee blade is currently the bastard child of the family, - the Hest, i've sincerely fallen in love with the simple designs of the knives and the company behind them. As for the junglas, i want one, for the cool factor, the anti-zombie capabilites and maybe even for some use out on my grandfather's farm.

Not to hijack the thread, but guess this is my introduction post too, lol..
killing time, waiting for snow-magedeon here in oklahoma.
