That’s because of the blade angle, from the factory it’s set for being more durable. If you start sharpening it with a bigger tilt towards the back it will get slicy. That’s what I’ve done with my alox soldier.
I’ve got to say, coming from super steels on my EDC’s it was an eye-opener to sharpen my Pioneer this evening. Had a bit of a rolled edge and the point was dull. A couple of strokes on a 600-grit removed the rolled edge and raised a burr, half a dozen on a 1000-grit ceramic refined it, and a few swipes on a strop with 3 micron diamond paste removed the bur. Took maybe 5 minutes to have it shaving sharp, and most of that was because I kept accidentally raising a burr while stropping!
