What SAK are ya totin' today?

This Trekker started life as a green-scaled Bundeswehr/GAK model. I needed it to look inoffensive and SAK-like for a trip to Europe in 2018 so I replaced the scales and also got myself the tweezers and toothpick into the bargain. Whichever livery it wears, it's a workhorse!

Questions: When did Victorinox stop using metal inlay for the shield logo on the scales? Is anyone recreating them? I'm tired of these fading on the recent models.
As far as I recall, Victorinox only uses the metal shield inlays for the logos on cellidor scaled models. Those models with nylon scales had stamped (with silver paint infill) logos in the past. I noticed they are using only surface printed logos on the nylon models nowadays. These surface printed logos fade more easily than the stamped infilled ones.

So I just need to make sure the next replacement scale is Cellidor, not nylon 👍
Thanks!

Within reach:
An Hercules, for I need a second pliers.
Assortment of "T" shank jigsaw blades, for when the VIC saw is the wrong saw, or a longer wood saw is needed.

No worries Zieg. I don’t think the 111mm Victorinox models ever came in the glossy cellidor scales, though. The 111mm Soldier & Bundswehr models do have embossed logos, but I’m not sure if Victorinox sells those replacement scales as I have only seen the usual red & black nylon ones at the local dealer’s shop.

Did you use that parcel hook slot and keyring on the Huntsman to fit a jigsaw blade there? That’s a neat trick 😊

I think you're right: I don't remember ever seeing the metal inlay/Cellidor scales on the 111mm models, either. But there are secondary sellers online with 111mm scales they are touting as Cellidor and so possibly with the metal I'm looking for. The prices are low enough that I will have to take one for the team, place the order, and see what shows up in the mail.

This might need to go in the Tinkering forum. 😄

Yep. I learned that trick on You Tube.
It works great and adds versatility. The SAK saw don't work when cutting even soft metal pipe or tubes.
Also, for some wood cuts, the standard saw is rather short.

Been a while. Been out dealing with some health stuff. Not sure yet if I'll be as active on the forum as I was.

Haven't done much knife-wise. I did replace stuff that was worn out/ broken/ heavier than newer stuff. Old compass/ thermometer had the thermometer fall out some time ago. Found a crack in the old Fox40 whistle. So, updated some more of the old with newer lighter more modern stuff.

Sharps - Victorinox Venture (fixed-blade, spear point, main tool), SAK Sentinel (large folder, one-handed if needed, non-serrated, no clip), SAK Excelsior (small folder, pen knife with two small very sharp blades). Truth be told, will likely never need the Venture, but I prefer using a fixed-blade over folders for camp/ emergency tasks. All IMHO and YMMV.

Spare compass/ thermometer thing I picked a few years ago. And the new very loud (110 dB ) thing.
