Not sure why Victorinox hasn’t designed the Alox scales to hold the small tools?

The only reason I can see is the Alox models use the scale directly against the tools. The plastic models have a metal side plate between the scale and the tools. The side plate keeps the accessories in place when you open the main tools. If you had the accessories in the current Alox models and opened the tools there would be little to no retention of the accessories and they would fall out or into the knife itself. With the tweezers they would open into the knife and you could not close what ever tool what opened on that side. I hope that makes sense.

It wouldn't be hard to include extra side plates but it would make the knife about a millimetre thicker. They would also have to machine the slots into the scales. This would be expensive for Victorinox as the extra tooling would not be cheap. I do think it would be nice to offer Alox knives with the side accessories though.

Since I don't venture as far and wide as I once did in my younger years, I don't really find a need for either of my Buck 112's as a hip carey. Therefore, I've trimmed things down a bit and find this Victorinox on my hip more often than not of late. It's one of my two favorite Swiss Army Knives for riding in that pouch. The photo was taken in December, but the knife is on my hip at present as well.

SOW, reference the Australian, 1942 wire cutters, made by "Sunshine" I have not had a chance to use them. I gave a set to a very good friend, and he reports they worked well on one and two strand barbed wire, had to work a little harder on three strand barbed wire. They definitely work better than I do, us both being of the same age. John

Giving the Picknicker a good sharpening. It's over 30 years old, a liner-locking version, and one of my most used SAK's. I am partial to 111's.

A family photo of an 84mm Golfer, a 91mm Golfer, an early Compact with a smooth hook, a newer Compact with a nailfile on the hook and a more modern 91mm Golfer. I carried the more modern Compact today.
