A Lumberjack and a Walker

👆🏽whats the difference? Never understood the reason a knife called the walker would have a saw blade? And wouldn’t a Lumberjack have his own saw and axe and other tree felling tools and equipment?

🤣😂🤣😂🤪

Using my Pioneer i kept getting the nail nick side wrong after all these years a muscle memory issue.
So i compared with my Champion plus and it’s not the same. Same size just nail nick on opposite side? I found this interesting.

The Lumberjack is older with no scale tools and an economy shield. The new version is called a Walker because Victorinox was targeting the hiker market at the time with this light weight handy tool.
Fun fact, In Australia where im from we go bush walking not hiking.

Ref: "Bush Walking"... I like that term. I live in the USA and sometimes refer to my trail trips/day hikes as "Woods Walking".

I wish i had looked at that antique store 84mm a little closer. I picked it up and looked like a spartan but don’t remember seeing the awl or if it had the file or small blade. For 14 dollars i’ll go back and get it and the $5 classics. It’s only money.

My new old Spartan i just picked up at the antique/vintage mega store on the left got cleaned and oiled and will travel with me around the house until i miss having scissors at hand.
There a few slight differences. Mine says Stainless the older one says rosterei. The keyring eye is thiner, mounted differently and at a different angle. And my original has a hole for a pin that i put a pin in it. The one i just bought has no hole.
Any idea what year range it is? IMG_5861.jpegIMG_5860.jpeg

Is there a thread where SAK owners/lovers discuss identifying age or a site where i can get identification information about SAK’s and how to date said knives. SAKWIKI can be a bit lacking though still useful at times.
Like i know if a knife that has a parcel hook is 92 and above without is pre 92 ( that is models that have the parcel hook now ie Swiss Champion)But when did they drop the Rosterei or go from Switzerland to Swiss Made or when was the pin hole added to scales you know that sort of thing?
Maybe that info is on Sakwiki and i’m not seeing it.

Still with the new older spartan. I’ve added a leather lanyard to it as this was taken yesterday. Also put it on my sharpener. The little blade had a slight nick in it.

All gone now.
Large blade is definitely scratched up running along the length of the blade. Any advice as to polishing it out? Maybe i should start a new thread on all this?

My sons farm or what i call his property as it in farm country but his isn’t being utilized.
He has 50 fruit trees (1/3 peaches, apples, pears) and about 5 pecan trees. I picked about 100 pecans off the ground. None were edible but i’m sure the squirrels enjoy them.
Peaches are about the only thing that are edible.
