What Schrade knife do you have?

Thanks LT for dusting this thread off. Schrades are my favorite, but I haven't been collecting them for too long. I have acquired some waldens and schrade cut co. as well, but it's hard to find a good bargain sometimes. I do mostly stockmans and the like, don't have any LB in schrade. I do have a small handful of 225's, though. I always liked them, although nowadays they would make old ladies faint if you whipped them out.

Nice collection, though.

Someday I might be able to post some decent pics of my knife roll. I ran out of room in one and had to start a second one.

I suppose it is what you are looking for, a good skinner or something pretty. Truthfully I like them both I skin and butcher as many as 50 deer during the season. For that chore I like carbon. But there are a lot of good deals out there for the collector especially if they start looking under the Schrade label. True, Schrade Waldens and Schrade Cuts while still not a bad buy ( compared to Case ect) are starting to come up in price. However there are some dandy buys out there around 1983 Schrade introduced a five knife set called the Schrade Cutlery Classics five knives which were ordered from Schrade one each month for 20 dollars a piece blades engraved with scenes representing american workers Lumberman, Farmer, Miner, Rancher and Fisherman. Jigged bone handles art work by Frank Giorgianni. These were works of the cutlers art. OK the blades were stainless but it just means that 20 years later these blades are still beautiful. They came in a wood display case. New Knives today of this quality bring 50 dollars and up . I have recently bought 2 sets on ebay for 75 dollars in unused condition with display ( less than original cost.). One set was all in green bone. It is the same pattern of what happened with the Schrade Waldens and Cuts years ago. The day will come when knifes like these which are presently ignored will be highly sought after and instead of cussin because they were to young to get in on the old tangs young collectors should be sucking these babys up left and right. This is just one example Schrade has been putting sets and special editions out like these for 25 years. If you ever get a chance look up the 13 colony set or the presidential sets that were put out. They sell for a fraction of what they should right now. I have included a picture of part of the brochure on this set. Good Hunting Lt PS I recently upgraded so that I could attach pictures this is fun and I recommend it for showing off your possibles ( as the indians used to say). I hope to see what is in that knife roll soon.

The best Schrade I ever owned has skinned more deer than the law allows. And the Sharpfinger will ride again this Fall, but it has company for the first time in 20 years. I got a coco Vanguard on closeout/giveaway and preliminary results are promising. Heresy, I know.

A Vanguard will do the job, but if you have used a sharpfinger for that long your addicted and while a vanguard may grab a little more tallow space on the the main cape it will never get the small and tight peeling spots like a sharpfinger. It is just my opinion. They will both do the job. Good Hunting LT

I've got the SW7 and like it a lot. The rotating clip is a great feature.

Kapt Kopter,

Nice grouping of knives. If you can, post a picture of your group. We love seeing them all.
I'll dig up what I have on the Heritage series for you.

Thanks for dropping in.

Heritage Series

What I can find they were 1st in the catalog in 1985 with 6 knives. Jackknife, Trapper, Muskrat, Whittler, Medium Stockman and Premium Stockman which are all "Genuine Bone Handled Knives". I know they were produced for at least 3 years.
LT will have to verify this for me in that the 1st series' were not the deep red burgandy color. I believe there was another series done later with the deeper color and at least 1 additional knife in the group. (I think it was a LB7). I also believe the later series was done in Delrin.

Hope that helps a little.

Mid 80 tys is I believe right. Some straight patterns later on. These were made with several handle styles the dark smoothbone being the most sought. LT

The riginal genuine bone "Heritage Series" knives were made in 1984 and 1985, just those two years I believe, although maybe it was 83-84 or 83-85, I don't recall. Anyway, the years were on the shield of each knife.

As Larry said, there were six patterns, and each was availalbe in three sawcut bone colors, green, brown, red. A nice but short-lived series.

The new "Heritage" series knives are a mystery, sawcut burgundy delrin handles, brass bolsters, etched main blades. The ONLY place that I have seen them is on Ebay....never any mention on the Schrade website.

A little more on the mystery Heritage's.

They are called the Western series and were never published in a catalog.

Like I said.. A little more.

Have a great weekend.

Hey Scrade guys, what can you tell me about this one.
The stamping Schrade over Walden over NY USA I guess it is derlin? handle but the jigging is really uniform--the info above is on the saber pen blade and 804 is on the other side. Is it a whittler since the saber pen blade is by itself? The other end has a pen blade and a coping blade. so it is different than a stockmans
One in a collection my husband is giving up--has the 0ld shield to, shaped like a fish
Anyone know what to call this jewel? Or how old it is? I thought late 50's---?

The 804 is called the carpenters knife it was made under the Schrade Walden tang from around 1946 prior to that it had another number ( which if memory serves was a 8363. ) The tang marking for the early one was Schrade Cut Co. If your knife is in bone it was made prior to 1960, in jigged delrin it was made from the late 50tys into the 70 tys. Yours does not have Schrade Walden on the shield and looks rather like bone ( except for the even discoloration on the scale and flat uniform handle shape and uniform jigging which would make it delrin ). You could do the pin test ( sticking a hot pin in the back of the handle and seeing if it went in and what it smelled like. I have been doing it for 40 plus years and still do not do it right it was easier just to learn what they looked like. I am attaching a bad pic of two of these the one on the left is bone, right is delrin. Sorry about the pic I forgot to reset the focus and had put the knives away and could not do over. Still it should give you an idea. Your knife appears used these ( in the pics) are NEW OLD Stock. I also included a pic of a full box of the delrin version from the late 60 tys. The bone one is on the bottom left it may be a better pic. Also there is an original card which the employees of Schrade used to carry a full set of so that they knew which knife was which. These also are brand new old stock. Let me know if you need more info. LT. PS I just looked at your pic again definite delrin real late production in the 70tys. Nice later jigged delrin. Shame the bone version are much more sought after although with Schrade gone who knows. Hope this helps let me know if you need more info.

Thank you so much, yes I can see the difference between the handles, and sadly mine is not bone. However your reply has anwered all the question I had thank you so much

An interesting thread. Nice to see a little activity here again. I have only a handful of Schrades and it's still hard to pick a favorite although I am partial to my EDC, a 98OT "Ramrod".

I have a bunch of Schrades. I really dig the 895 and 896 based stockmans.

My pride and joy to date is a 498L (L denotes leather handle) that I just scored - MINT IN BOX! This baby is just the cat's meow. I really do need to get a camera. You guys would totally dig this knife :p.

Maybe one of you guys could share some relavant history about this model. The box reads "Bench Made Collection" on two sides. One side is labeled 49ers Schrade Bench Made Collection. There is graffiti on the butt - looks like maybe an anvil and something else that I can't discern.

An original ad was posted for the 49ers a short while back. Check it out. And yes, more than likely a Schrademeister will pop in on this any time now. Not this puppy, I only remembered a thread with the pics.
