What should I name these designs?

1. The Butcher
2. The Baker
3. The Candlestick maker

I would probably call them, in this order:

1. Racetrac Reaver
2. Shell Slicer
3. Sunoco Special

Thanks but most designs of anything are almost ALWAYS named. But I get what you saying. These are in the process of being further developed and made through a well known knife maker. More details can't be said yet of who and when.

I'd worry more about functionality than the names. First things first, you know.

#1 should be called the Wedgie. :D No offense, but that is one obtuse blade geometry. What's the intended context of use with these? Let that influence the names. :)

Haha that's funny. And intended use it whatever the user wants to use them for I suppose. They are mainly designed as EDC's.

Then they should be functional. As I asked before, have you spent much time actually using knives?

Why would you design a knife to not be functional. It's a knife. I'm not sure what you're trying to say. And yes I've used knives before, use one everyday.

OK. What I'm saying is your designs look unusable. Full of ridges and holes on the handles that are going to be uncomfortable hot spots, stress risers on the blades, and extraneous design elements.

They are neat looking CAD, and would be great in a video game, but in use? I dunno.

Its a common error from well meaning new designers to focus purely on style and reinventing the wheel. (Or coming up with an awesome name.)

Happens over and over and over.

Go look at what the "greats" did: Scagel, Loveless, Dozier, Randall, etc etc even a non-Rambo Jimmy Lile. Spend a couple hours whittling, skinning, or doing food prep.

Those would be a much better use of time than worrying about a super awesome name.

In my opinion. But best of luck to you either way, and keep at it!

You and I clearly have a different taste in knives. I prefer high end folders. Fancy and functional. Sorry that's just my preference. I've owned plenty of knives with similar style cutouts and as long as it's executed properly proceeded with you won't even notice they are there. I get what you are saying. But these are not video game designs. These are real knife designs that WILL be made a reality because that's my goal and it's already in the works. Sorry you don't like my style. But thanks.

Which high end folders inspire you?

Larry
Curly
Moe

ps. some of the extraneous design elements REALLY reminds me of this guy's work;

And to expand upon mtangent's question, are those folders designed and made by different individuals?

It would be neat and informative to see the knives you have made, and if there are none of those, to see some of your earlier designs....as well the the "insprirations" mtangent asked about.

I concur. Blade height to handle height is weird, as are the grind angles. There is too much space between the sharpened edge and the handle as well.

Definitely not something I would buy, whether it's $500 or $50.

For me, egonomics are far more important than looks. Hopefully the maker/company you are working with will smooth out some of these issues I see.

Best of luck regardless.
