What size blade do you EDC and why?

Just wondering what size blade you guys like to EDC and why that size is preferable for what you need a EDC knife to do.

I currently work in a law office and am a law student. For these reasons, I dont find it necessary to carry anything over a 3'' (inch) blade. Anything I would need a knife to do in a law office setting can be handled by a blade under 3 inches, which is why I usually carry a Spyderco Chaparral or a Case Swayback. Although it would be nice to have a bigger blade every now and then, its not necessary so I dont do it. Also, Florida laws say you can carry an ordinary pocketknife. Since it is so vague, I feel something 3.5'' may not be considered "ordinary". lol

Gee, I would think a 3 foot blade would indeed cover it :P

I usually carry a couple 3.5" blades. Better to have the length and not need it, than need it and not have it, right? I would be willing to bet most of us EDC the maximum permissible by law.

A good gentleman's knife like a Bark River PSK with a leather pocket sheath would be pretty classy. If you're okay with a pocket fixed blade.

ZT0301, 3.75" blade. Because I consider it my 3rd weapon(main,BUG,knife) on duty. I carry it off duty as well.

I usually carry a Spyderco Dragonfly (small, light, non-threatening looks) when I go to the office or such, but I'll take something bigger if I head to some less civilized place of course. I can't legally carry anything bigger than 8cm blade here though.

Most of mine are in the 3.5" +/- range and that is what I have mostly carried for the past 15 years, except for a few years that I carried a Benchmade mini-grip. There is nothing wrong with carrying 3" blades and there are some very good ones available in that range. I guess the biggest thing wrong with them is that I can carry larger blades so I do. Well another thing- depending on the size of your hands a knife with a 3" blade may come with a handle that is too small for your hands. This would mostly be a problem with heavy cutting chores and you probably don't have to do any of that while in your office.

I have knives in a few size ranges and select one in the morning depending on what I plan to do and where I plan to go. Spyderco Military gets a lot of pocked time but sometimes I carry only a frn dragonfly 2, it's good to have options :D

I'm schizophrenic when it comes to blade length. Some days I'll go minimalist and carry something small like a Sog Blink or Spydie Dragonfly. Honestly, these will handle just about all of my suburban office EDC needs. The next day, I'll think "what if the Swedish bikini team asks me to field dress a mastodon - I better have a Cold Steel Spartan on me." Often my carry knife will change a few times during the course of the day. But generally I'll have something like a Para 2 or Benchmade 710 in my pocket, as its small enough to be nimble for EDC, but big enough to get busy.

Sog Blink.

Just in case.

When I carry a big knife, thats exactly why I do it.

Same thing runs through my head all the time. lol

And just to clarify, I am not looking for suggestions. Just wondering what your preference for blade size is. Thanks

Ahh well I generally go from 2.75" all the way up to 4" just depending on what I am feeling for that day. But I work freelance so I can pretty much carry w/e I want.

Benchmade warn mini barrage in left pocket and para 2 in the right usually. Warn is for tight spots workin on cars, para 2 is for length/belly.

I've tried to EDC a couple of bigger blades, but I tend to gravitate towards 3-3.5" blades as my main blade. I've got a few drop point hunters that I like to carry, as well as a couple different Spydercos. I also carry a smaller 1.5" warncliff necker, for similar reasons as LilRed. ^

I the best "can do it all" blade size to be mid 3s. My Sebenza and Les George VECP to be my go to for everything, and can pretty much do anything that's thrown at it.

Some where in 3.5" range. Just recently switched from a griptilian to a ZT 561.

Other days I carry an izula II or an ESSE 3mil.

I have small hands. My small Sebenza fits me perfectly. An Al Mar Mini Sere is also just right.

Here in Minnesota we have no blade length restrictions except for a few cities (Minneapolis being one), where there is a 4" limit. With that said, I usually carry a knife around 3-3.5" (usually a Ritter mini, sage 2, para2, or zt0350), simply because anything bigger starts to become uncomfortable to carry. I also always have a serrated h1 dfly and a case peanut along for the ride as sheeple friendly options.

No limit in AZ, I usually carry a 4 inch folder, and a multitool.

This scares me! A law like this is set up for easy pickings at the Officer's discretion.

My main knife is anywhere between 3.25-4". In addition to that I always have my victorinox cadet.
