What size blade do you EDC and why?

My daily carry collection ranges from around two and half to three and half inches. I prefer carrying just under three inches, since there's less of a footprint in my pocket at that size.

I'm 1,65m high
a 60 to 75mm long blade suits most of my needs
3" for you US folks is my +- preferred choice

works well, good for my size/high/hands and carries well

What could be easier than for a law student to get his concealed weapon's permit? Then you're good concealed for 4" max.
Florida has the boilerplate for CCW's, as you know.
I don't like less than 3"; usually 3.3" (Para 2) to 4" (Spydie Military) max, with Emersons and Umnumzaan inbetween.

Over the years I have come to settle on this arrangement as it fits my needs best. I always carry a large knife in my right front pocket that usually has a blade length between 3.75" to 4.50". I rarely use this knife because most of my daily knife needs are handled by a slipjoint that can always be found in my left front pocket. Still I like to carry the large piece because it is usually a unique knife that many folks may not know even exist, and I mainly speak of non-knifer's. Currently I am carrying a LionSteel SR-1 bronze titanium in my right pocket, and a Rough Rider's camp knife in my left pocket. The RR has a main blade that is a spearpoint and is ~2.75" in length (this is the 4th RR camp knife I've had, the other three were give away's, and after handling all three I decided I wanted one for myself. This is a great knife for under $10, and would be worth it if it were $40. That's the quality this knife has!)

My daily rotation is between two Emersons. Micro Commander during the day, and CQC-7v after work. Spyderco Salt for weekends at the springs or beach.

I carry knives with a wide range of sizes from the honeybee(in my keyring), to the OD-2(in the fanny pack), to a para 2 and a ZT 200 in my pockets.

I also work in a (law) office, and range between ~2-3.5" depending on what pants I'm wearing and whether or not it's a Friday which is my day to carry almost anything. 3" is pretty ideal; I'm also a small guy.

I used to carry folders with blades 3.1 to 3.5 inches long for work-related purposes, unfortunately they drew a bit of unwanted attention and now I had to carry a folder not more than 3 inches long in blade length.

I have yet to try using folders with blade lengths of 2 to 2.75 inches, the handle sizes might not be big for 3 or 4 fingers to rest comfortably on.

I also carry a SwissChamp SAK in my utility pouch for the tools which might come in handy.

I usually carry a Leatherman Skeletool CX in my office. I need the screwdrivers and pliers all the time and the 2.5" blade does most things I need. When I work SAR or travel I usually have a 3.5 - 4 inch blade. Typically a Paramilitary, ZT 550/560 or a CRK Zaan or Large Sebenza.

Just wondering what size blade you guys like to EDC and why that size is preferable for what you need a EDC knife to do.

I currently work in a law office and am a law student. For these reasons, I dont find it necessary to carry anything over a 3'' (inch) blade. Anything I would need a knife to do in a law office setting can be handled by a blade under 3 inches, which is why I usually carry a Spyderco Chaparral or a Case Swayback. Although it would be nice to have a bigger blade every now and then, its not necessary so I dont do it. Also, Florida laws say you can carry an ordinary pocketknife. Since it is so vague, I feel something 3.5'' may not be considered "ordinary". lol

I'm pretty sure you can carry a larger blade with a concealed carry permit.

i tend to carry larger blades 3.5 to 4 inches reacently have been carrying the manix 2 Xl in love with this blade most of my cutting tasks are more heavy duty (i work in construction) so i find the larger stronger blades are more reliable plus its good to have a big blade incase you need to defend your self im curantly only 20 so no carry permit yet lol

A tad over 3".
And, I've been EDCing a Svord friction folder. For basic cutting, a friction folder is all that is really needed.

3" blade is more than enough for me. I usually carry a SAK.

Its basically used for cutting things throughout the day. Its not much of a defensive tool, if i feel threated my Smith J Frame gets pulled over the knife.

I usually carry a 4"+- blade as my main knife. I like a large gripping area and more reach, plus longer blades are usually a little thicker, which I also prefer. As an added bonus, all of the best looking (IMHO) knives are in the 4 inch range. :)

For normal EDC i preffer a 3" blade usually the BM mini nitrous stryker or the Delica 4 FFG. the smallest i would carry is the Dragonfly 2. i do have a CS Lawman but it seldom get carried.

Sadly, I live in a country were self defense is a real concern and gun permits are almost impossible to get or keep (you might get it for a year, then have it refused for no reason).

So my knives have to be capable self defense tools. When I'm at my farm or in my family's mountain cabin (both safe areas) I carry small slipjoints and light fixed blades (4" is what I tend to like).

However, in the city I gravitate towards knives with a bit more reach. I love Delicas to death, but tend to carry Enduras a lot more. My urban folders tend to be 3.5" and up in blade length (especially in the winter).

My edc's normally are between the 3" and 4" range. I can live with any blade length between those numbers.

I carry around 4" normally. If my blade is smaller, a HEST 2.0 for instance I also carry another larger knife
SonnyDaze, where do you find 4" Max for CWP holders? I have the entire weapons chapters they send you with your CWP, and it doesn't mention Max length anywhere.

3" is my local legal max, so I carry a fixie 2.5-3". Sometimes also a folder.
Turns out it's a ridiculously convenient size for most of what I need on a daily basis anyway, without being bulky either.
If the limit were 4", I probably wouldn't go more than 3.5", but that's just because I have several favorites that length.
