What size blade do you EDC and why?

I prefer the Mini version of Benchmade's Griptilian and Barrage families.

I just don't like whipping out a sword to cut a string off someone's shirt.

I feel three inches and under are fine for anything I'd want to do with a knife.

Somewhere between 3-4 inches. Of course, I always have a Vic Farmer and either a Condor necker, Koyote necker, or an Izula on me. The third blade changes. Lately it's been a ZT0560.

Mostly, it is something in the 3" range but goes up to 3.5" occasionally. Under 3" is an unobtrusive size that I know is legal in most places that I would be traveling to.

i usually carry either a med stockman, sodbuster, or peanut (so from 2.3-1.7) for town edc, but when i work (landscaping) i carry a full size Trapper but i also have an Endura(3.4) no matter where i am if its legal. I would like a paramilitary(3.4) and another delica(2.9) so i have to have two one hander knives. i think anything under 3 is a good size for 95% of what i do

I think my preferred folder size is shrinking. I sold off my large military and selling off my SMF. Im starting to think a large sebenza is more knife than i need...

Something like an izula is tougher than the most overbuilt folder. That paired with a slip joint for fine work will cover all the bases. But I work in the city and I live in the burbs.

If I got a job as a mall cop, all bets are off. Folding smatchet anyone?

Bigger knives feel better in my hand, so right now I've got my ZT301(3.75") on me and the others on rotation are no smaller than 3.25". How many of you also EDC a smaller blade? I carry a peanut in my coin pocket.

it depends...i edc everything from 3-4". but generally edc 2 knives....a 4" and a 3", my 4" folders are for nothing but self defense.
somedays i like to just carry one....so i carry anything with a 3.5" blade.

I keep it <= 3", partly because I don't need more for EDC and don't want anything heavy and partly because it's more people friendly. Not that I use my blade in public often and people still call a Meerkat "a weapon" and carrying a ladybug as "being armed", so I'm not sure the size matters much in that respect.

Anything with a 2.75"-3.75" blade length works well for me.I'm mostly in a urban/suburban environment.

I work in an office too.
All my pocket knives are 3"
Chapparral, small sebenza, acies2, skyline.

I went from carrying mostly < 3"blades to 3.5" to 3.75" blades for EDC. Even though I could get by with a sub 3" blade I just like having that extra capability if need be. I work in an office and rotate between an Endura 4, ZT 0350, Emerson CQC 7V and a Spyderco Superleaf. Some might call those too much for office carry but I like having heavier duty capabilities. I have a long road commute each day so having something that can cut through seatbelts is just an added bonus IMO.

I work in an office in a suburban/urban environment. Everyday I carry a Vic Cadet. Often I carry a PM2, small custom FB, or Bradley Alias (small) in my pocket - depending on my mood. Also, I keep a Falkniven F1 in my book bag, next to my desk, and an Entrek Badger lives in my car - Just in case.

I usually carry a big folder, in the 3.75 +/- range. I always have my Caly, jr with teeth that will cut just about just about anything except metal.

Mine usually goes from a Delica with a 2 7/8 inch blade to a Paramilitary 2 with a 3.5 or so. And always a Peanut and a Cadet with me.

Usually between 3 and up to a 4 inch blade. Those are easy to carry size wise. Kevin :D

This is a good observation. I think in general people are more concerned about seeing a knife at all rather than the size of that knife. I think people also notice the style of knife before the size. They see traditional vs modern/tactical before they see 3" vs 3.75". In general, I think when people see a knife their first thought it "hey, that guy has a knife..." rather than "hey, that guy's knife has a 4" blade, I'm only comfortable with blades under 3.25"..."

I personally carry relatively small knives (in the 3.5"+/- range) because that is typically the size that gives me enough blade and handle length to be useful but is small enough to carry fairly unobtrusively on an every day basis.

Basically what I'm saying is carry whatever you want within the law. Us knife nuts worry more about which knife we carry more than anyone else does. To most people a knife is a knife. The people that are afraid if knives will be afraid of almost any knife. I try not to concern myself with those people.

I don't carry a blade over 3". I haven't (yet) found that I need more. I usually pair a dedicated folder with a SAK, which helps me with those "what if I need X?" dilemmas.
