What started your ESEE Addiction?

I’m mostly a lurker here on this forum (This is my first post). I had seen the RAT line talked about on USN, and I found them interesting enough to look into them a bit. After a bit of searching I came across this forum. I finally joined after a few months, but never really felt like I had anything to contribute. I found it interesting that the ESEE knifes seem to have (dare I say it) striking similarities to the TOPS knives that I knew a little about, but I don’t own any. After a bit of reading I found most of these ESEE knifes are manufactured in my home town of Idaho Falls, Idaho about 4-5 miles from my house. Anyway, I ordered an ESEE 4 Clip Point out of Louisiana because I can’t seem to find any ESEE’s around here! They are a great value and an excellent Knife (and after all, they are made in Idaho).

I have gotten a bit carried away since I bought the ESEE4CP six months ago. The list seems to keep growing!
ESEE4CP, ESEE5, RAT3, RAT3CP, Izula w/scales, Izula II, (2) ESEE Fire Kits, (4) AH-1 arrowheads, and misc odds and ends (sheaths and such) and the Mighty Junglas!

I haven’t bought a single one locally. I’ve bought all my stuff from Knifeworks, and they are great! I have been out by Rowan’s shop. The wife and I were shopping for some granite out that way and I figured I would see if I could locate the shop in the same industrial park. I didn’t stop in; I wasn’t sure how they felt about visitors.

Anyway, I’m not really addicted, I can stop anytime!------ Blaine

I was browsing for tutorials on convexing, and came across a guy on youtube named Bluntruth4U and he was showing (on a chart) his concept of a convexed edge.. He then demonstrated this little knife shaving/cutting through what appeared to be a 3x3 in about 5mins, then shaved hair off his arm afterward.. I loved the shape of the Izula and the geometry of the knife itself explained how easily it excelled in that task..

I'm wearing a necked Izzy as I type this.. great knife, excellent design..

It was bluthtruth and the Izula that turned me onto then (rat cutlery)

Youtube, and the ESEE website for me.
I had been lusting over the ESEE 3, and was going to buy one..
Last week I went to ESEE's website to look for a dealer, saw the Izula II, and the next thing I know UPS is at my door with my very own Izula II :)
Now I'm hooked!
Thanks ESEE! lol

a buddy gifted me with an izula last year. great friend. great knife!
its been in my back pocket every day since.
and of course ive added a few other esee knives
along with having a great time and learning lots here

Started off not too long ago with a 5 found ESEE by accident after hearing the name a few times. wanted a hard use fixed blade and I think the 5 fits the bill. now that I have the ESEE bug I have bought a HEST and really want a Junglas

Started with a -3, then a -4. Managed to get the Thanksgiving leftovers RAT Pack -3 knives last year. Then a -6 with the older RAT Pack.

Anxiously waiting for the DPX HEST folder LE. Considering an Izula 2 and definitely going to grab an Izula Folder when those come out.

The (ESEE) Wallet kits are on my stocking stuffer list as well.

The mighty "Hoonglas" was my first and an Izula is on its way!!!

Let the addiction breath and run it's course!!!!!!!!!:D

I want....I mean I need one of these ESEE knives! Thinking maybe the 5. Where should i go to get my hands on one of these??

For me it was the sheaths that attracted me to ESEE. No other company offers sheaths that are nearly as versatile and functional right out of the box. I was looking specifically for something that could be put on the MOLLE belt that I use for carbine classes. A stout fixed blade is a very handy thing to have in a carbine class because it can be used to deal with a specific type of malfunction, not to mention all the other uses you find for a good knife when you are outdoors. I ended up going with an ESEE4 (actually an RC-4 at the time). I have since added several other ESEE offerings to my tool box.

Winning one (an ESEE-5 with the pack kit) in the shelter contest last year.

I was hooked on the knives and the community at the same time.

Both great.

i started off with an Ontario RAT-3 and planned on getting more since they were cheaper and i thought they were just as good as ESEE knives. then i got an ESEE-5 in a trade and it was on. I now have an ESEE-5, 4, Izula, Junglas, AH1, and the firestarter. the quality of these knives are amazing! even if you dont use them that often they are fun to just hold and look at! i plan on getting an Izula-2 for Christmas and then an OD green and orange G10 3 and 4.

I absolutely had to have a 4 when I first saw one about a year ago. I found dealers up here and bought a few 4's and the whole Esee line up eventually. Got a few spare 3's and a couple of 6's also. My favorite knives by far. I have a sweet spot for the 4 but the 3 runs a close second. Esee knives are addictive :D Bladeforums has cost me a pile 'o cash , that's for sure.

The Izula got me...that gateway drug of knives.

I got it after buying a few cheap small fixed blades and finding them lacking.
After wasting 30 bucks or so on junk the $50 price tag of a knife like the Izula, which was universally lauded, didn't seem so steep.

For me my first two that I purchased. An Izula and a 4. What cemented it though was the 5, without question my favorite of the entire line.

I just wanted 1 knife with the best quality and a great warranty... Now I want all of them!

I actually don't have any ESEE knives (yet) but have been really crawling the ESEE section in the past couple months. Hopefully, this Christmas, the Izula-II will drag me into the wonderful ESEE world...

I would say this forum got me into the ESEE knives. The way people who owned them talked about how they great they are, its borderline scary how fanatical they are. So upon the great reviews of others I became interested. My first ESEE was the ESEE-3 Rat Pack knife. For me the 3 is just a great little knife.

Started with RC-5, then Becker BK-7, then Scrapyard DFLE, SOD, S6, then Busse Knives, then Izula. Now I got a HEST Folder on order and will get the Izula folder when its available.
