All right guys, I have trouble looking for the right survival knife so I decided to ask you experts. I am currently looking for a survival knife and I need your help to find the right one for me. Below are the things I want to have. Give me your opinion if the specs I choose isn't good. I'm very new to knives just did a bit of research.
- Length of knife: 10 inches is enough
- Full Tang
- Partially Serrated (Only the part which is closer to the handle) The rest should be straight.
-Stainless Steel Blade (Easily Sharpened, Strong, Durable and doesn't rust or corrode!) Higher-end Stainless Steel/
- Drop point blade
- Holes so that it can be converted into a spear.(I like this one.)
- Hammer at the end of the handle.
- Blade and handle - BLACK
- Nice Sheath and a sharpener on it is best! (Optional for sharpener)
Please give me your opinion if the specs I choose for a survival knife doesn't fit.

EDIT: I have narrowed down to the Fallkniven S1, is it a good knife?

Ask this over in Whine and Cheese........

No, jk, don't

Use the search box and you can find stuff for survival knives. But i'm sure a Becker of some sort would suit you fine

Those do not go together. I'm just gunna throw the BK9 out there....

I would think a BK-7 would suit you well. Full tang, black coated carbon steel, holds a crazy edge, heavy duty blade that will put a hurt on small trees, etc. It is a little longer OAL than 10" but is a great knife and will handle most anything the woods can throw at you, for well under$100.

There is a knife with Bear Grylls name on it that meets your criteria. He could use the money now anyway. Check the store that has a Mcdonalds in it, that is where they sell em'!

It goes together like the LFM II Infantry
LMF II Infantry nots full tang thats why I don't want to get it does the BK 9 has a serrated edge?

Welcome to BF
What i would do .
Buy a Fallkniven F1,BK2 or a Esee 4 to start with. Then you will have a idear on what you will need or want.
You can alway sell them above sugested knives if they dont float you boat.

the bear grylls ultimate knife? i dun really like it
Just kiddin. Jman has the right idea. Seriously go with the ESEE-4 or even the 6. They are full tang, come partial serrated, coated black carbon steel to keep the rust away and you could lash em to a stick if you had too. As far as a hammer goes use a rock. Oh and they are drop point!

I have a Fallkniven F1 for my survival/bush fixed blade.

I'm very happy with it so far.

-comfortable in hand
-good size for bushcraft
-tough laminated vg-10 stainless blade (excellent steel)
-full tang with the hammer pommel you wanted
-nice convex grind and very tough thick blade.

There are other good quality knives in the category, but the F1 fits my needs perfectly.

Other than the BG Ultimate and the LMF, everything that has been mentioned here is more than worthy IMO. I put my BK2 through hell and back and it keeps begging for more. It chops well for a 5" blade, it can still do some fine work; think of it as the jack of all trades in a way. It was a great stock sheath that I put a leg strap on for a drop leg rig and I am never worried about it falling out. It batons well (but I never really do that anyway), chops well, can do fuzzies, etc... In terms of a 'survival' knife, I find it to be worthy.

I also hear many great things about the BK7 as well. Trust me, these guys know their stuff

I really do not think serrations are all that great, but that is merely personal preference. If you really want serrations, ESEE has some wonderful options. ESEE has some great stock sheaths and accessories as well, but I cannot comment too much on them, I have only ever handled a 4.

I want to stay as true as possible to your specs, but it is very difficult when there are many other options. It just really boils down to what you want. Here, this will help a ton; What do you plan on doing with the knife specifically? What things do you want it to do?

Oh! And welcome to BF my friend :D

^this... to be really honest with you, the list of things you're looking for is just a little bit wrong

If you're looking for a survival knife get a survival KNIFE... you don't get a survival knife/spear/hammer

the knife is by far the most important of your survival kit in a truly primitive survival situation. For that reason, you want a BULLETPROOF design.

what you should be looking for is a knife that does everything a KNIFE should do. Slice, Chop, Baton, Skin, etc... notice that driving a nail isn't on that list

In a survival situation, you don't NEED a hammer. if you have something you need to whack with a flat object, use a rock.

In order of cost NOT quality, i'm going to list the options for you that are closest to your list of criterion.

Becker BK9, Ontario RTAK-II, Ontario Ranger RD9, ESEE Junglas, And way up at the tippy top of the price list, Busse Bushwhacker Mistress

Every knife on that list is a VERY durable knife that will perform excellently for pretty much any task you will actually NEED to perform in a survival situation

Most of them have sheaths which will allow you to put a good bit of survival gear (fire starter, multi-tool, Altoids Tin kit) in them, which makes them much better than the tacticool Blackout Ninjitsu Hammer Spear Knife

Of course you can always go the other direction

For the size your looking for either the esee4 or esee5 will work well. Both can be gotten with serration's. The becker bk2 and bk7 are both good knives too just no serration's. There are a ton of other knives that will do just as well too, just depends on what you want to use it for to narrow the field down.

Well I want to chop logs in half, skin wood, hunt and probably make a fire. I might use the knife for spear fishing if I can attached it onto a pole. I might not have the time to care for a knife so I'm looking for a knife that can last longer with less care.

for spear fishing... (not really a likely survival scenario) you take a piece of wood (longish 4-7 feet) a smaller piece of wood and a piece of twine.

you split the end of the long piece, then you put the small piece in the split so that the 2 split pieces are 1-2 inches apart. Then you wrap the twine around the split to reinforce it and keep it from splitting further (if you don't have string, you can use your knife to peel bark from some kinds of trees, or use small vines as string)

then you sharpen the two pieces of the split long piece

you have just created a frog/fish spear and never have to risk your most important tool (your knife) by tying it to a stick and poking around in bodies of water with it.

again... get a knife to do what KNIVES do.... most everything else can be made from wood or rocks

you NEVER throw your knife or risk it when other REPLACEABLE tools can do the same job

*edit: MAKE TIME to care for your knife. Your tools will only take care of you, if you take care of them. That said, every knife i listed can handle abuse that you are very unlikely to ever put them through.

How is the Cold Steel SRK? I think its good, I hear about problems about the edge.
SOG Seal Pup Elite? It looks good.
