What Survival Knife should I get?

Er guys, I'm living in tropical areas so I'm afraid my knives would rust EASILY due to the humidity, so I'm looking for stainless steel blades for longer use.(That's why I'm thinking hard on the BK-2)

Look at Entrek knives ... several fit in your requirements .... and all made from 440çaluminum stainless steel

Anybody thing the BK-2 Companion is worthy? JUST NO SERRATION :(

Most folks around here (myself included) are not fans of serrations on knives. You really don't need them and they can be a pain to maintain. As to whether the BK2 is worthy - yes (as is the BK7 and pretty much all of the Becker lineup).

Someone posted an opinion that the BK2 isn't well-rounded - poppycock.

For only having a 5" blade, it chops like a much larger knife...

In spite of the fact that it has a .25" thick blade (that will outlast you and me by several lifetimes), it is quite agile...

It even cleans and scales fish...

BK2's forte is the fact that it is well rounded.

How about the ESEE 5?

Perfectly suitable, and in a true "survival" situation may be preferable. I have one, but don't use it as much as some smaller knives like my Bravo-1 or ESEE 4. The 5 is a tank, and is really designed as a downed pilots "do everything" survival knife. No worries though, it is a great choice. I have a very early version of the 5, so it is a Rat Cutlery RC-5 with the original Eagle Industries sheath with pocket. That is a nice feature as it can carry enough stuff to get you out of a jam, like fire starter, small compass, SAK, etc. That's what I keep in mine.

I can speak for the SRK. I have the AUS-8 version. I was never able to get a good edge on it, BUT i didnt know how to sharpen knives very well when i had this knife. I put it through a lot of crap. the blade slightly wiggles in the handle, but id say thats because i sort of abused it... :) it still works. Id reccomend the Carbon steel version if i were you. not completely sure where you can find it. Its a great knife. I prefer 3-4" blades though so i dont use it much anymore. Id recommend carbon steel over stainless. easier to sharpen in the field. just oil the blade every now and then. Esee 5 would be a great choice too.

Depends on you budget... For the money you cannot beat a Swamp Rat "RMD" RatManDu. 52100 (sr101) steel is excellent! Wonderful knife you can count on. Welke Kydex with attachments for Ferro Rod and Stone and or a TekLok...

For rust-prevention and storage, I recommend TW25B grease over any oil (although Hoppes #9 and mineral oil are good). It is odorless, non-toxic, and has no shelf-life. It's the texture and consistency of room-temperature bacon grease, so it coats very well. But it doesn't rot or harden.

All my knives in storage have a nice coat of TW25B on them.

Ok thanks guys, I'm thinking of getting a the Fallkniven S1 but I'm not sure if I should get black or silver version, I'm aiming for zytel sheath anyways.

I second that, Entrek are excellent knives. I have a 11 Bravo, it is tough, practical and stainless. Several of their models would suit.
