What to do about dumbass gangsta wannabes?

Setting up cameras so you can call police the second you see them entering the neighborhood would be ideal. If everytime they came in there the cops were there to bother them and search them, they probably wouldn't come too often.

I would imagine that anything you do to them they would give you back in an escalated form. Help the police to do their job. Get some neighbors together and you can all call in each time you see them. 10-15 phone calls would probably get their attention.

Look, first of all, I am sorely disappointed that the good guy that night went out unarmed and so didn't get his bag limit of dirtbags.

However, zapping punks ala Charles Bronson is illegal and it remains assault and battery to be fake zapping them with paintball guns.

So, shy of the nation getting some stones and deporting all of these punks' families and shy of actually expecting the police to solve a difficult crime, there are three basic options:

1. Move. (Flee). This is probably the eventual move just through the progression of my career, but right now the housing market is too soft to get out of my house and the business end is dicey enough that moving up could be a stretch best not made at the moment.

Additionally, I am a fan of the sentiment of Col. Cooper that one cannot confront evil by fleeing from it. In part, this gangbanger phenomenon has spread because people flee or duck their heads about it. Then it takes root in their community permanently and follows those who fled out to the suburbs, just like here it took hold of the "bad" neighborhoods and now reaches out to affect the decent ones.

Just one bad kid from one Mexican immigrant family has this whole thing going. No tagging in the ten years I have been living here and then an explosion. No one but school kids used the drainage ditch shortcut and now delinquents tag the fences of the homeowners who back to it.

2. Zap them. This is of course highly illegal and barely merits mention. Had I been the next door neighbor on the night of the shooting, the cops would have had little trouble finding a car or suspects riddled with 30+ 7.62x39 rounds. Call that a lost opportunity on the part of the local good guy but it is lost nonetheless. One cannot reasonably stake out, or hunt down and kill the wannabes and expect to not trip up and get caught. I view this option as being in the realm of fantasy.

3. Area denial. This is the option I am exploring because it is realistic at this moment in this economy. Upon overnight reflection, I know exactly where to get at some Himalayan blackberry root balls. I examined the approach at the ditch in great detail this morning. If the city does not approve our coming request to gate off the ditch on both ends with some security fencing to deny access to it, I have decided that this fall I am going to introduce the blackberry canes into the ditch on both sides and let them become the barriers instead. The first benefit to this is that it is rapid and untraceable. Anyone living in the PNW on the "wet side" knows that berries like the ones I propose to use are viewed as "weeds with fruit" and grow into what are aptly named thickets, with an array of thorns eventually more effective than concertina wire. The second benefit is that once established, the bangers are too lazy to clear them, so they will choke off their access via a lack of their will to clear brambles that can grow as much as 23 feet per cane per growing season and eventually can establish a density of up to 500 canes per square meter. Thirdly, if the city even bothers, at most they will spray them, but only after they are established, and even dead, the brambles are an obstacle. Also, even if they do clear them, I will reestablish them and it will look just like indomitable nature won't be denied.

That said, the other end of the equation remains untackled. There is a LDS church across from the target wannabes house. I was hoping to propose at the next neighborhood watch meeting that we all chip for a wifi security camera and approach the church for it to be placed on one of the church's parking lot light poles and have it conspicuously pointed at the target's house so that he'd know all about it. Maybe that and some postings around the neighborhood that certain undesirables were being monitored whenever people felt like loading up web page of the camera and that would send a message. The hope here is that the knowledge that the target wannabe's family is under 24/7 surveillance will get them to hobble the wannabes activity, or failing that, provide evidence to the police of gang activity.

The more aggressive and definitely illegal thing to do to convince the trouble family to move on would be a false flag operation that undermines their sense of security far more than they can psychologically handle. I am not at the point where conspiring about this with the fellow vets in our neighborhood watch is worth the time or energy. It remains intriguing though.

Good luck, Boats. That's all I have to say since I'm not sure your approach is going to work.

i have two words that will cure all rampant gangsta wannabe run ins:

Hello Kitty

Thanks. Feeding them to the hogs remains an endgame option.;) Right now we have to use the "proper" means and partnering with the police to combat the problem.

If that fails, things get interesting, at least until I move.

Ya know, I can understand that mentality to a point, but speaking from experience, when the shit moves in and your watching your property values drop every year, hearing your kids talk about drugs and guns and threats at school, reading in the paper about the rapid rise in crime rates and robberies, assaults, drug busts, rapes, shootings and the like coming closer and closer to your door, it's nobel and good to talk about taking a stand but it's quicker, safer and easier to get the F out.

If the police are unwilling or unable to fight back and are going to prosecute me for doing it myself, the war is already lost.

Boats: is it illegal to riddle them with bullets if they are firing at you? Because whatever you do, it may come to that scenario.

My post wasn't about vigilantism, it was about people getting attacked and fighting back. In all the cases, there were home invasions/drivebys happening. In my locale, it's perfectly legal to fire back, and charges will not be pressed against you, nor can you be sued in civil court if the event is considered a "defense of the innocent" situation.

BUT, your local laws may well vary. Usually this kind of crap breeds where the criminal is protected by the "law".

Well, you will indeed get prosecuted for doing it yourself. My freedom is not worth the killing of such pieces of shit.

As for the LDS church letting you use their property to mount a camera...good luck! I know the LDS church well and my bet is this is not something that the local bishop is going to give a nod on. They will have to get approval from the stake level and then Salt Lake and that ain't gonna happen, especially when they would rather convert the gang-bangers into tithe paying members. Getting the police to ask the church might give you a little advantage but I doubt it.

Like I said, Boats. Good luck.

Exactly. Best post in this whole thread!

I say install some 24 hour cameras around your house that cover your street and possibly down the street at say the first intersection. If you mess around and start firing off paintball guns, or 12 gauge beanie bags, there is a remote chance that you're gonna find yourself in just as much trouble as these misfits would be. Also, a community watch program could help. Maybe call the local police department and see to what extent you are able to defend and what the use of deadly force laws are outside your property.
The laws are so f'd up now. of course, if they come inside your home, 12 gauge bird shot would do the trick.

I was 100% with you until that part. I will never understand why people think bird shot is a good idea...its for BIRDS!

My point being if you are going to defend yourself within the parameters of the law then do so. Less-lethal is for cops, IMO. If a citizen feels his life is in jeopardy to the point of needing to shoot a bean bag, he would be better off shooting 230 grains at the perp.

So true...

Plus in most states shooting someone with a paintball gun is going to be about the same (in the eyes of the law) as using a real firearm. Get cameras, call the police, and shoot back if you need to...

Forget all of this other BS because it'll land you in the same cell with these punks.

Im sticking to hello kitty. It's no cannon, but who in their right mind would want to get shot at with a pink ar15 sporting a cute little cartoon kitty???

Were I advocating something illegal, I'd be the first to agree with you. I am casting about for legal ideas, not conspiring to commit any crimes.

Find through tax records if they rent or own. If they rent you may be able to work through the owner. If it is section 8 (feds pay rent ) then the feds will evict on any evidence of crime. Also look at a Quality of Life small claims court action. In NC you can file up to a $10,000 claim without lawyers. If the whole neighborhood files individually, the property owner of the problem house usually wakes up as this can really add up fast. I realize this isn't as cool as machine gun, but it might solve your problem without going to jail.

paintball gun will just piss them off, and who wants to shoot at someone with a fake gun when your target is holding real guns.. freezing a paintball just makes them more brittle, the fill doesnt freeze.

your best line of approach is making them not want to come in your area at all.. making their footpath difficult to access might help, however it wont stop them from driving down the main road.. i can imagine it not being a nice situation to be in.
