I recently engaged in a deal with somebody I've dealt with before. I was selling a Surefire and a Kershaw in the same thread. He asked to purchase the Surefire I had for sale, but the light was sold. He then asked how much the Kershaw was because he wanted to buy it:
Hello Michael! Just kind of wondering how much do you want for the Kershaw blade that was sitting right next to your Surefire G2. Please let me know so I can send you a USPS money order as payment ASAP. Thank you

I told him how much, he replied "Thank You", and to confirm I asked him:
Would you like to purchase it? If so, I will mark it as sold on Bladeforums.
Thanks,
Michaelmcgo

He replied:
Yes and thank you

A week later I asked him:
Hello,
Just wanted to check in to see if you have mailed the MO yet. I'm in no hurry to get it, just wanted to make sure you're still on board.
Thanks,
Michaelmcgo

He replied:
The payment has been sent today and plese let me know when you receive it. Also please send it to...

A week later I got the MO for the amount of the Kershaw (the Surefire was listed for more than the Kershaw). In the envelope was the first three emails of our exchange (Him: Can I buy the Surefire... Me: It's sold... Him: Oh, how much is the Kershaw...) I shipped out the knife and let him know with the tracking number. He replied:
Do you mean the Surefire G2 with R2 LED Drop-in or the Kershaw??? The payment was supposed to be for Surefire G2 LED. Anyway please clarify this. Thank you

Now he wants to undue the trade because he claims he was intending to buy the Surefire. He just sent me:
Hello Mike! If possible can you send the USPS MO back to me or just send me a refund???Please let me know because I really don't need another knife at this point of time. Thank you

I guess I am fine with shipping back his MO, but I am out shipping charges and I turned down a couple offers to buy the light when the guy I am dealing with said he wanted it. I guess I'm kinda pissed because I don't get what's going on here. I don't think he's trying to screw me at all, but I get the feeling he doesn't want the knife before he even received it and now I get the feeling he's trying to tell me I shipped the wrong thing.

Maybe it's buyer's remorse being covered with "I thought I was getting the light," even though what you've posted of the correspondence seems to make it clear the light was not available.

In any case, I don't see why a refund should be a problem. I would make sure to ask that he sends the knife back first, just so you can confirm you'll have it back in the same saleable condition as before.

Some confusion and/or slightly bruised feelings will pass. As long as you get the knife back and he gets his money that's what really matters.

sounds like he got a little excited buying something, discovered the surefire was sold, and bought the kershaw just to buy something.

Yeah, I would be a little upset over that too. It appears you were quite elaborate in your questioning to ensure clarity. I would just honor the deal with refunding after you get the knife back. I would also ask for shipping costs, if not eat those, and I would not deal with that person either. It seems he is indecisive, which is fine, but is also deceptive, which is not fine.

After I got the knife back I would refund his money MINUS exact shipping cost of what he cost you to ship the knife. It sounds like buyer remorse to me. :grumpy:

That's ridiculous. I certainly would not want to undo anything over buyer's remorse. Especially when the person appears dishonest.

Give him back the MO.

Eat the shipping.

Make a mental note, not to deal with them again.

It's what I'd do anyway.I wouldn't like it,but it's what I'd do.

Get the knife back. send refund less shipping. It was not you're misunderstanding it was his mistake (if we can call it that). This was his problem not yours.

This is what to do:

1. Get knife back.
2. THEN send refund, minus your shipping charges, along with the $0.44 for the stamp to send the refund to him. If you have to buy another Money Order for the refund, don't forget to ad the cost of the new Money Order ($1.05, I think.). I would also charge him another $5 as a "handling fee".

Based on everything the OP said here I got to go with doing everything here posted above, minus the extra $5.00 USD.

Well then, call that $5 "being a dumb-ass" fee, and bill him for it.:D.:D.

you were dealing with George Tsai AKA Tac Blade, whom I banned for his serious dishonesty. I would suggest holding the MO until the knife actually returns -- if ever -- and only then returning it to him.
Very good advice.

Yes, run straight to the post office and cash it today. You can send him a refund if he ever returns the knife.
