What to do?

Thanks for all the input here. Really solid posts all the way around. Appreciate all the kind thoughts.

Thomas - having been the recipient of your kindness, the matter sickens me. Society continues to deteriorate at an alarming rate.

Greed, theft, "gimme" mindset, "I deserve" mindset, the lack of compassion towards others - whether it be in the corporate world or as individuals - it never ceases to amaze me - and I've got a few birthdays under my belt.

I would totally understand if you / KAI / ZT decided to play your cards close to the vest in the future. Once again it's the masses that suffer because of the actions of a few. Unfortunately, the "few" seem to be growing in size.

I've met some really great people thru the forums and the random acts of kindness never cease to end - I wish more of that mentality would seep into the world we live in.

I for one would never turn my nose up at a free knife, ever. Anyone that does should get a dry shave with said knife. Of course if it's a Kershaw, at least it will be sharp!

First person to say "I'll take it" (from the U.S. please) gets a free Kershaw Vapor III that I got, from Thomas!!!!

I'll take it.......yes, if I am the first one. Regardless if I am or not, Thank You. I love my Kershaws.

Thats crazy people would complain about a free knife. I guess some people are very hard to please. I'd be super excited if I got a free knife. As far as times go for producing new knives, I'd rather have it take a month or two longer and make sure its right than rush it and receive a inferior product. Keep up the good work Thomas and Kershaw Knives.

It's in some people's nature to complain incessantly, as some have pointed out. Luckily, those whiners make up a small percentage of the population here. I've enjoyed using and collecting Kershaw/ZT products for years and will continue to buy more. I cannot understand why a person being the recipient of a gift has the nerve to turn around and complain, aside from it being a reflection of their poor attitude those threads are unpleseant to read. In the end, you have to do what you think is best. Thanks for making great cutting tools. If you feel the need to give away any more knive Thomas, I can always add another one to the rotation. :D

This was a great thread Thomas, really clears the air, except for the photo, that is just unreal. I guess it really just proves that we need to be accountable for our own actions, because we can't control others. As far as random giveaways, I like that idea a lot. Have a great day everyone.

With the hand wringing and proud diabolical smile, this image feels like it should be in a caption thread.

I'm new to lurking here and even shorter to posting but is there a thread that details MTs involvement in this? New to the whole world of knife collecting but Kershaw jumped to the top of my list with the purchase of an on-sale Vapor from Cabelas. I'm presently working on a collection of Blurs as funds allow and it sickens me to hear that a neighbor (Microtech is located a half hour away from me) has lowered themselves to stealing a design from a fellow manufacturer. Of course this from the same manufacturer that almost moved from this area because there wasn't enough "skilled" laborers (Case is also located in Bradford and they seem to have some pretty quality knives too so they must have all the skilled laborers?). I can completely understand your thinking behind no longer giving "sneak peeks" at in progress designs after something like this happens. I can also understand discontinuing giveaways when people are so ungrateful to receive a FREE product that they complain about quality or length of time before receiving said product. Society is full of idiots and it seems the ungrateful ones are always the luckiest at receiving or winning free items...........

People are never content, no matter how much you do for them.

Yeah look how much Kershaw has done for Microtech and zero gratitude - just an "in yer eye" unveil show in Taiwan. I'd like a ZT 0301 Santa Thomas.

Thomas I am new to the Kershaw area, but I really appreciate the ability to communicate and get feed back. I hope the few bad experiences will not over shadow the number of great threads of open communication and assistance I have seen here.

That's totally reasonable - do what you have to . It seems to me that you were doing folks a big favour by letting them preview upcoming products and even starting up giveaway contests. If you're getting backlash over these things, scrap 'em - as far as I'm concerned, folks don't really need to know about the upcoming products months and months before they're available anyway. I'll be just as happy to find out about them once they're on the shelves.

Anyway, you won't be losing any of my business over this, for what that's worth.

P.s. if you want to send me a Shun I wouldn't gripe;-)

If you'd like to try out a Shun or two....watch the Passaround forum. I'm going to be doing a kitchen knife passaround that will have a couple of Shuns in it.

@ Thomas

You can't change people. How many times have you given knives away to the whiners and complainers? For a while there it seemed the easiest way to get a free knife was to act like an ass. :p

The knife giveaways and contests were cool. The "first look" threads really get me anxious for new products. If those are gone, so be it. They both were icing on an already good cake. This is the forum for my favorite knife company. I'll be here regardless.

Thomas, you do an excellent job here. I don't think you need to change a thing. You will never see me complaining. Keep doing what you do.

Rotate quite a bit. Always trying out the new stuff. Been messing with a lot of the imports (Tremor, Volt II, Drone) lately. Messed with the Echelon a bunch as well...liked it a lot.

Thanks for the response Thomas! The Echelon really caught my eye, I think it would be a perfect compliment in pocket to my 0350. Sadly, I am having a hard time finding a Canadian dealer to order (pre-order) one from :(. I am also looking forward to the Cryo, have you had a chance to play with one of them yet?

A few years ago, I won a Tyrade (Titanium) from a contest where we had to guess the winning time of the men's marathon in Beijing. It's unbelievable! Still one of my favorite knives, and still a reason why I recommend Kershaw today. Recently, I gave away a damascus leek to a friend/work partner, and he is hooked as well.

I haven't said it in a couple of years....but thanks again!

I see a lot of giving here from Thomas and other individuals. That is incredible! Just reminded me that I have given 2 ZT350s to friends when they first came out. They are die hard fans now. Kershaw and ZT make great presents!

Kershaws is what got me into knives so they have a special place in my heart. Too bad we won't get a first look anymore as they always gave me something to look forward to and time to save up! It's unfortunate that giveaways have to stop I never had the honor to receive a freebie but one can always hope. Don't know why people get all worked up on something that's free since they didn't throw down any money or risk anything so they should only be gracious. Thanks Thomas for your continuing kindness despite the ingrates. Hopefully one day the giveaways will return and I'd be lucky enough to participate and win!
