What to do?

Thomas, you do an excellent job here. I don't think you need to change a thing. You will never see me complaining. Keep doing what you do.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Thomas, you have earned a huge amount of respect from me throughout my short stay here on BF

Thomas, I'm grateful for you and Kershaw/ZT's presence in these forums, in it's myriad shapes and forms- even if it will now, be somewhat diminished. Although an insight for this course of action was never necessary, it is greatly appreciated. Thank you for not leaving us out in the dark and wondering.

Albeit unfortunate for us, you guys are doing right by your actions to protect your self interest.

Disappointed and appalled at some forum members lack of common decency when receiving something free, it's totally mind blowing how some people and manufacturers, for that matter, function. Maybe someday we'll restore your faith in us and you'll give us another chance to carry ourselves accordingly because it appears some of us needed this little heads up on how to conduct themselves.

Can't promise that I'll like all the knives that Kershaw/ZT produces and will never find fault with any of them, but know this- I won't stop buying Kershaw/ZT. The more I learn about the way it conducts its business as a manufacturer and having you and other mods as its presence in these forums, the more I am inclined to support it with purchases.

Thank you so much for all that you and Kershaw/ZT have done so far. Merry X-mas and Happy Holidays!

Best,
-Vlad

Thomas,

Send me your address and I will send you a free crappy knife. Once you receive it feel free to call or e-mail me and complain as much as you want. I know it will not rectify the past, but maybe it will make you feel better:D. You can even start a new thread here to complain about it!

The truth is you can not keep all people happy all the time. You guys do am excellent job with the other 95 percent of us who actually appreciatte all you do. Try to focus on us and forget about the whiners of the world.

As for not releasing information ahead of time, in light of the past events you guys have suffered, I understand. Regardless I know I will keep buying your products. Keep up the great work!

Just my two cents, but some people are just plain awful. I spent a year in Marketing and there are people who you seriously can't make happy. I haven't had a single bad experience with Kershaw/ZT or any of the others on this board who truly enjoy knives. It's unfortunate that we won;t be privy to the newest information regarding my favorite knives, but I understand the reasons for the decision. Thanks for everything Thomas!

This thread has been full of lots of good sentiment, and from what I can see a lot of understanding for the changes you've had to make, Thomas.

That makes me a happy Kershaw lover!!:D

Sooo, when are we staging the "Occupy the Microtech offices demonstration"!?!?!?!?! ;)

Merry Christmas Thomas!

Jonnymac, that is literally the best occupy idea yet.

Eventually our collective smell will accomplish something.

This thread has been very cool to read. I just went out and bought the RAM and think I need a Knockout too. Thanks for the thread, the sentiment and the introduction to Kershaw!

Thomas, some people aren't happy unless they are unhappy. Don't sweat it, plenty of support and love for your products around these parts :) .

I just purchased a Kershaw Needs Work at cabelas saturday. Love it love it love it!!!!!

George in maine.

Its sad when it comes down to stuff like this. I dont blame you at all for the decisions being made. Everything now-a-days seems to be taken for granted. Most people seem to be loosing their respect for themselves and everyone around them. I dont post very much around the Kershaw forum but I browse through often and of my knives, I own more Kershaw than any other brand. Thomas never fails to come through and always provides great information to those of us looking for it. Through it all, knives can be copied and reproduced but the support and customer service Thomas and the rest of the Kershaw family provide is one of a kind and myself as well as many here on the forums appreciate that greatly. Thanks for all that you do.

Hi Thomas, KAI, and BF members...
you guys are doing great. because of this forum and all of the great people in this little community, i am a KAI fan and loyal customer. I have purchased more KAI products for christmas gifts than anything else. i especially like the made in USA products. my first KAI product was a skyline this summer and im now addicted.

On the internet, there are tough guys that easily post negativity. There are more good pople than tough guys ... but the good people dont write good things as much as the tough guys write bad things. it just the way it is ...

Just keep doing great work in 2012 and i will keep supporting your product.

thanks for an awesome 2011 ... happy holidays ...

Thomas,
The giveaways are all about the giving. It makes us feel good to give, and we reflect well upon ourselves by it, even if the receiver doesn't like the gift, or doesn't appreciate the gesture.

The effect goes far beyond the person receiving the knife. All the people reading can see that you are appreciating your customers in a generous way, and it generates good will toward yourself and the company.
You have chosen a unique way to do it, with sort of a "random acts of kindness" approach, which is pretty cool.

Regarding the policy of announcing only when ready for market, it has its good points and bad points. Overall, you need to protect yourselves and your IP, but there is something to be said for tantalizing your customer base with upcoming products. Perhaps there is a middle ground.

Keep up the fine work. You are leading the pack!
I am waiting patiently for a new 560 to become available in stores, and it will be the flagship of my knife collection. I am chomping at the bit for it to become available! I have a feeling that this knife series is going to be a legend in its own time.

We all appreciate what you do, and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you, your family, and everyone at KAI.

This takes some serious balls.
I understand pursuing legal action is a pain in the @$$, but at the very minimum this deserves a gift wrapped dog turd in the mail.

That being said; keep up the good work Thomas. Don't let the bastards get you down!

Haters are going to hate ! Nothing you can do about it .....

I say keep up the good work .....

I think we need to hit up poopsenders.com and send a big ol gallon of elephant dung. That should do the trick! :D

On a more serious not, keep up the good work Thomas. Nothing but good things coming from you guys!

As much as I love seeing prototypes, I can agree with not showing knives until release. Spyderco does it that way now too (or at least tries to) and it hasn't been the end of the world.

People give negative feedback on free knives? Give their names to Santa so they can have a lump of coal for Christmas.

Thomas, because of what you have written on these forums and things I've heard you have done to make grumpy customers happy, my appreciation(love) for Kershaw has now been fully revived.
As a carpenter in trade and Capt. in my local VFD I know what it's like to deal with ungrateful people. They are the loudest minority.
But when one person thanks us for going out at 3am and cutting a wrecked car from around their drunk son, all of it is worth while.
Thanks for what you do.
I am now saving up for a ZT0560.

Cicatriz
