What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Thanks! I think it's Case's best jigging, at least in recent years.

I'd bet that #62 makes a fine office knife. I bought one just like it when they were released, and decided to put it aside for a little while. The next time I feel disappointed by missing a new GEC "drop" (as the kids call it) I'll pull it out and get that new knife feeling! 😁

Thanks for sharing that story. What a treasure to still have the knife (and a fine one to carry in its
Thank you! worth more than any other in my collection!

On Thursday I drove down to Arkansas from Minnesota for the FreshGrass music festival. The festival didn’t start until yesterday afternoon/evening, so we grabbed some local BBQ for lunch…

Earlier this week I got the #86 Angus Jack (Medium Rare) in the mail, thanks to some help from sf fanatic sf fanatic , so before I left I decided to sharpen it up and drop it in my pocket for the trip. GEC wasn’t kidding when they described it as “hefty” on the tube, but even with that and the high-riding sheepsfoot, it doesn’t feel too bulky in my pocket.

We tried to stop by AG Russell’s, too, but the shop was closed yesterday due to being short staffed. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the biggest disappointment we were in for yesterday.

The festival lineup last night was supposed to be Steep Canyon Rangers followed by Old Crow Medicine Show. OCMS is my favorite band hands down, and the biggest reason I made the trip. I’ve seen them play 6 or 7 times, in Arkansas, Arizona and Minnesota. They put on an absolutely fantastic, high-energy live show. We showed up during one of the other opening acts, and were able to get right down along the rail in front of the stage. I was ecstatic. I have seen OCMS that close before, but that was in smaller venues 10+ years ago, and the last several times I’ve seen them they were playing larger theaters and our seats were further back.

Right before Steep Canyon Rangers came on, one of the festival organizers came on stage and announced that someone with OCMS had tested positive for COVID that day, and they weren’t going to be playing. So that was certainly a bummer, but all I can do is make the best of it. We enjoyed Steep Canyon Rangers, and might catch some of the smaller acts today before Billy Strings tonight.

Thank you, Jack. He'll be with me again today.

The timepiece indicates that it may be the 11th hour for your old Böker, Rachel, but I think it will last a long time yet!:thumbsup::cool:

Got myself a new pair of gloves :)
...
Looking good, Jack!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Split cowhide or suede or something I don't recognize??

Got my Usual Lamb paired with a recent addition, a wonderful gift from Taylor @tmd_87
...
Winning pair, John!:cool::thumbsup: I've always admired the Queen Barlows with the rounded bolster and the toasty golden bone. Plaudits to Taylor for a super gift!

...
I switched to my other EO Navy Jack today, and also this Craftsman “Bowie Stock Knife”.

Tremendous trio of dependable doers, Jeff!:cool::thumbsup:

What a handy little blade... Vic should definitely take notice and start making those.
Thanks, John. :) I'd like to find the courage and make the time to try modifying the pen blades on a couple of other knives the same way.

Electrician is a winner Gary :)
Totally agree, Jack; I always get a charge out of it! 🤓

A 66 Stag Muskrat today.
...
Majestic stag muskrats, Jon and Paul!!:cool::cool:

Great knives Gary, really like the picture of your Electrician. Nice whittling job! 😎👍
Thanks, Todd; that little bust of the "hat guy" is a nice whittling job, and I wish I could take credit for it, but Greg WhittlinAway WhittlinAway sent that to me along with the modded Vic Recruit.:thumbsup::cool:

A SAK Cadet and a mini trapper for Trapper Tuesday, 😊View attachment 1649524
Superb duo, Todd!:thumbsup::cool: Your chestnut jigged bone mini trapper is a real jewel! Coincidentally, I'm carrying one like that this week, but I apparently have a strong preference for the spey blade over the clip point, based on the patina😲:

View attachment 1649599I’ve been carrying my CRK for the last month or so, been busy and work was demanding some stainless. We’re on the brink of a full harvest swing now though, so I’m breaking out the traditionals again!
The WNCLF has been residing in my pocket since Saturday. A good friend got married and it felt appropriate.
Those Waynorth Cutlery Lambsfoot knives are sensational, and it's fantastic to see both models posted near each other!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That's a really appealing knife, Mike!:cool::thumbsup: But I have to admit I'm having trouble identifying it.:( Sure looks like Case bone and Case "Xs and Dots" dating on the tang stamp, but I can't make out the shield. I might have guessed a Case humpback whittler, but I thought they had a spear main; is it just 2 blades and a half-whittler, maybe?

Also @Jon0385 : Jeff , I have one each of 3 brands that you are talking about . None look as nice as yours . Below in is PAL , IMPERIAL , and CAMULLIS .
Neither of them have a Number on a Blade . The Imperial does have U.S.A. on the tang of the Pen Blade .

Impressive trio, Harry! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Carried this yesterday for Micarta Monday and kept it in the pocket as today's carry as well. I don't baby this one, its a hardworking and dependable knife.

Of all my GEC's this one is my designated beater John, but a great knife IMO. :) The day I received it new I accidentally dropped it on concrete and put a small dent in the end cap.
The next day it was all I had in my pocket while at my daughters and used it to removed caulking from her tub to re caulk it. Scratched up the pen blade good. ;) It's solidly built with good blade action and sharpens easily, nice one to have in the pocket when dirty work comes up.
I enjoyed the story behind your "GEC beater", Greg!:thumbsup:🤓

This was my Dad's knife, an IXL Wostenholm. He carried it every day as far back as I can remember., it's shown alongside a copy of it made for me by Ashley Harrison of A Wright & Son.View attachment 1652056
My earliest memory was when I was about 8 yrs old, 1966, someone called to my dad as he was digging in the back garden, a horse, that was tethered by a long rope tied to a steel spike, on the common at the back of our house, had been tangled around it's neck by the rope and was lying on the ground kicking out as it was being strangled.
My dad went to the horse , which by now was almost motionless, and cut the rope around it's neck with this very knife, a few seconds later the horse had come round and got back on it's legs, shock itself and walked up to my dad, stood on his right foot and broke his big toe!
Dad said "that's the last b#$+%&d good deed I do for this year"

This knife must be about 60 year old, has been worn down by countless sharpening, scales have shrunk but still has the snap to match any of today's models and is priceless to me.
Great story and priceless knife! 👍🏻

Sorry to hear about OCMS. I’ve seen them before also and they are great. Billy Strings is fantastic, so you should have a great night ahead of you! Have fun!

Very cool. The original to keep, a replica to use, and memories to cherish.

Thanks for sharing that.

Thanks Gary. You pretty much nailed it. Its a 2013 Case 62046 1/2 humpback half-whittler. The shield and tang stamp both read "Bradford Cutlery".
As far as I've determined, Case did a run of Bradford badged knives back in 2012 and 2013. Maybe other recent years also.
In other posts I've called the handles amber bone. I've since determined that they are not amber bone, but rather goldenrod. Its a two spring, pen knife arrangement. No half stops. At 3.5" closed its roughly the same size as the 07 mini trapper. It doesn't seem to be a common pattern for Case. I'm quite taken with it :)

With a amber bone 6207 mini trapper. The 46 is slightly thinner, but they're basically the same size. Rainy today, so the lighting isn't the best, but side-by-side its obvious that it is not amber bone. No idea how much Case has used Goldenrod.

Decided to carry it today since this is the Totin' thread :)
