What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

A new to me Schrade Walden 293 Trapper and a rare Camillus #71

 Both are treasures, Steve.
293s are darned addictive! And 294s, 124s, and 194s, and 94s...
Judging by the peachseed bone, and saber grind, it’s pretty old. Have you nailed down approx. when it was made?
Do you think it’s older than the Camillus serpentine jack/trapper that you have?
Oh, I wish, Jack, but that is an old photo. (I'm too lazy to re-shoot all the photos I took using the rosemary backdrop) It's well and truly dead, but I'm going to use the old stem and root for something one of these days. Maybe I'll sand and wax it like a piece of driftwood art.

It’s always the special occasion gifted plants that die.
When our boy died, Vickie’s bosses (husband and wife) gave us a really nice big hydrangea. It was from one of those high end hoighty toighty boutique nurseries. It seemed to like the place I chose for it, until the next spring, when it did not spring to life.
I bought a cheap closed out one at the big box store with retired guys wearing orange aprons to replace it, and it’s just rocking along.
So get another one!
In the meantime, I think the gnarly old one makes the best knife stand on the porch.
Did you use the leaves in cooking much? I like it on chicken.

Interesting pics, Johnny! Your MINES sign reminded me that I had this one. Unfortunately I don’t really know anything about it.

Nice! 😁 I guess the downside to recycling that material from a skate ramp would be that most of the character would probably just be on the surface, and potentially lost once it came time to shape and finish the handles.

That’s a beautiful “old” Northfield Barlow, Harry!

Fantastic! 😁

That’s a great score! 😎 I have several Bull Noses and Busters, but they’re all 2015+. My only O1 GEC/F&F is a #99 Farmer Lock I bought from another member here a few years back.

That’s a handsome trio.

I’m still carrying my Medium Rare #86 Angus Jack. It didn’t help any with the pumpkin; Eleanor (5) drew the design and did most of the carving (with some help), so we were using the safer pumpkin-carving-kit “knives.”

Do me a favor, Barrett. Please ask Eleanor if she would give me pumpkin carving lessons.
That Jack O’Lantern rocks.

I'm sorry to hear the gifted hydrangea didn't survive. I don't know what variety of rosemary it was, but it had very sticky leaves, so I didn't like to use them in cooking. I've got a very nice replacement that's still in a big pot, so I can move it up to the porch if we get another hard freeze. The old one lived a good 15 years, possibly due to my neglecting to ever prune it, and it developed a wonderfully overgrown, twisty, woody trunk that will make a great knife stand.

Nice haul, Taylor.

Maybe it’s my Ifone. Maybe it’s the forum. Or most likely, it’s the nut behind the wheel, but I tried several times to make only one post combining several quotes, and I get them jumbled up. Sorry for so many posts, but suddenly I simply can’t multiquote.
Thanks! Looks like this will be it for tomatoes from my garden. It was a good one this year. I got some peppers left on. I’m Gonna start canning after high school football coaching is done.

Thanks Jeff, the Camillus is older being pre WW2. The SW I think would be early 50's

Yes, I do miss that rosemary plant. It was a housewarming gift from when I moved into this house. I still feel lucky, since I made it through the winter storm without any injuries or burst pipes, like a lot of folks around here.
Good news that the knife is moving again. 👍 When you open the tube, let me know if you want to trade back. 😆😂🤣
That's a real shame Rachel, I'm glad you survived otherwise, that was some pretty crazy weather  LOL! 🤣 🤣
Wow!
Thank you kindly, Jack!!! It sounds like you've had a very tasty evening! ;)
Definitely JJ! :D

As soon as I can get my truck loaded up and my wife loaded up in her car and headed off then I’m heading out of this bed & breakfast for a few days at the hunting club. Carrying a Case Trapper Jack today. OH
Ps. At the wedding reception one of my son in laws pulled out the Case 3318 I gave him last year, told me he carries and uses it everyday. My other S-I-L, a Georgia country boy, pulled out an Old Timer and told me it was his granddads and he carries it everyday. Those young men understand what being prepared means.
