Well, I can relate with your wife. Being retired, with a wife working her butt off, I do all the shopping, cooking, and yes~ floor washing.Thanks, Jeff. The old knife shows its age, not unlike myself these days.
I'm good with the thaw outside but like you said its a hassle with the mutt. The wife had him out this morning and spent some amount of time cleaning his paws afterwards. Now she set the standard which I'll be expected to follow as I take him out today. I'd rather contain him to the kitchen floor after being out, but then again I'm not the one who washes the floors around here.
Right at the end of the season I did all that. Took apart the Ambassadeurs and spinning reels, cleaned, greased, oiled, etc.
Those three are much more useful.

And I need to try and get out in the next month or two, even though it will still be cold. The northerns come way upstream, even up tiny creeks to spawn, and I usually miss it.
