I’ve got several of those old reels. One even pre-dates the invention of the level wind, so you have to guide the line as you reel it in.

These were “casting reels”, but they hadn’t invented the free spool yet. The dificulty of casting one of those led to Americans taking to those weird European reels that hang down under your rod.

I learned to fish with a wooden 'centre-pin' reel, about as simple as it gets

Was looking for an interesting background to use today. Was out earlier but dang near get blown away.
Anyway, Jack Black might recognize this spot. We picked the print up in York a number of years ago. Back to two I really like to carry.

Great pairing Gary That section of wall doesn't usually see a lot of traffic. A few years ago, I was in York, wqhen that tower/postern was open, but the spiral staircase was so narrow, it was a tight tit getting up and down! Thanks for thinking of me my friend
