Kevin kindly showed me the way to obtain a good Arkansas pocket stone, thanks :)
So here it is in its new backpocket sheath, test riding alongside the BF trapper. The second slot is meant for my larger knives like the GEC #53 or a Swisstool. Let's see if it works out or whether I'll have to make a Mark II.

Everything's better with a sheath :D

It was beautiful weather here in Yorkshire today, so around 9.00am I made a snap decision to take a day off and go out for a walk. I grabbed my bag and slipped my GEC Easy-Open Jack into my coat pocket. As I already had my Case Texas Jack in the watch-pocket of my jeans, and Arthur Wright Lambsfoot in a small belt-pouch, this left me quite well-heeled. They got to get their pictures taken, and I got to eat freshly-cooked English chips on the banks of the lovely River Wharfe :)

It has been cracking hasn't it Jack.

Wish I could have chipped off and taken in some views like that.

Must have been a great day.

Lovely mate. Yes, it would have been good to have had you along. I even got a pint of Dark Star Hophead in Wetherby :)

Beautiful day here too Jack, lovely colour to that Lambsfoot.

My first day with my first custom proper. A lanny's clip by Keith Johnson. I'm mighty impressed.

That's good, and thanks. That's a great knife you have there too :)

I have my new Pemberton on me today--boy this thing is small! Still trying to find the sweet spot for sharpening though. The grinds weren't perfect, and I've got it sharp but not scary sharp like a little scalpel should be. It's my first GEC, and I'm mostly pleased with the fit and finish, although there are some small nits. In any case, the design is a sure winner. Is it too early to teach my 5 year old to handle a sharp knife?

Not at all-- depending of course on your son's manual dexterity, willingness to listen, etc.

The Pemberton might actually be on the small side for small hands (sometimes, larger is better), but its relatively smooth pull is a boon for something like this. For a "starter" knife of his own (under supervision, still), I'd recommend an Opinel. That way, he can learn to handle and respect a sharp blade without also having to contend with snap/spring tension at the same time. Regardless, it's a good road to walk with him. :)

Today I'm carrying a Spyderco Bob T SLIPIT and a grapetacular GEC #25 Easy Open Jack...

Two thumbs up-- one for each of you.

;)

Beautiful! Now I see what you meant by a back pocket sheath! Awesome. I am just happy that the stones were good quality and you took a liking to their characteristics :)

I used my pocket stone to touch up my 76 today. I love the way it makes the edge sparkle like a diamond the way other sharpening medias and strops do not.

Again, glad you made out well my friend.

Oh wow, that is awesome Sam, I don't know how I missed it!

What are the details? That jigging is outstanding!

Brilliant. I'll have to remember that when my boy gets a little older. Makes perfect sense.

Full pockets today (case stockman, Northfield Ben Hogan) and a few bargains arrived in the mail. New Svord peasant, Mora 2/0 full tang (smaller than I expected, but handles really well), and one of those little japanese friction folders.
