What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

(Regarding Opinels as first knives--)
Brilliant. I'll have to remember that when my boy gets a little older. Makes perfect sense.

Well, maybe buy yourself a "reminder" sooner than later: get the Opinel of your choice and make sure to use it in front of your son, so he identifies it as a Real Knife That Dad Uses. Then, when you're both ready for him to start learning (;)), either entrust him with the one he's watched you use or give him a new one just like it. :)

Leastways, that's what I wish I'd thought of doing, when my own children were young.

Maybe I'll get a chance with the grands, someday.

Thanks Kevin and liamstrain

I was lucky, a fellow forumite on British Blades listed it for sale over here in the UK, avoiding a nail biting wait..... He'd asked Keith to make this one, I think it's one of his earlier versions of a Lanny's Clip, 3 3/4 long with CPM 154. I'm not generally a fan of hollow grinds but this knife has won me over. The edge has been ground beautifully thin and even, the knife opens like a Bentley door (I imagine:)).

I kept myself amused whilst waiting for the knife by looking at the thread on his knives on here, loved everything I saw! A true craftsman.

That sounds like a true joy to use and own! A great home for it :) Thanks for the info, Sam.

It's Wednesday and I carried the S&M jack and the boy's knife as I wanted to get a photo of the pair for the wW thread. Posting it here first.

Very nice. I trust you're left handed, dannyp?

I'm ambidextrous when it comes to using knives, but it's more natural to use my left. It doesn't bother me if a production slip joint isn't left handed since it takes two hands to open and I'm not usually in a hurry anyway. I feel it adds a nice touch to a knife made specifically for me, though. Not having to flip the knife over after opening it is a nice bonus.

This is a great knife! Thanks for sharing--it's one I hadn't seen before, and now I'm intrigued.

Is it too early to teach my 5 year old to handle a sharp knife?

Cheers,
Daniel

Thanks. I don't think it's too early to teach the basics such as safety and proper handling techniques. As long as there is close supervision, I can't see any problem with it.

Unless Mom disapproves, that is.:D

I feel like a broken record when I reply to this thread. I pretty much go with the Case Small Texas Jack every day:

GEC #15 Huckleberry Boys Knife in ebony wood btw.

The last picture was taken before the first two is why it looks like its got less of a patina.

Is that a sling?
and I like that gunstock rr bone. I've got a barlow version.
