What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Sunfish and Lambsfoot.

Actually the Lambsfoot is an example of one being made for me by Ashley Harrison of Wrights in Sheffield with Camel Bone handles. He is a fine young man and an excellent knife maker. There are very few continuing on with the Sheffield tradition, and I like to support and encourage them. Using a bit of patience and clear respectful communications, I have had very good results.

Thank you John, JohnDF JohnDF . I asked him to make one exactly the same so we shall see. I really like the fluted bolster. Also, this one uses the pruner handle which I find beautiful. A lot of the vintage Lambsfoot knives have that longer more elegant curve. It also has great ergonomics. The usual handle shape currently used is chunkier which probably makes it better suited for hard use, but it just doesn’t have that classic look.

If I had that knife, I'd never carry anything else. 🤠:thumbsup:

Hey, watch it, kid!
Besides, it’s not really gray, it’s patina.

Are you totin Eleanor’s knife, or is that one of the hundred or so other Bullnoses in your stash?

😁:thumbsup:

That’s Eleanor’s knife. She got a couple all day passes to ride the rides at the Mall of America for Christmas, so we were doing that yesterday, and I figured I’d bring her knife along.

I’d love to see pics of it! I think the Custom Shop really did a fantastic job on the NOS, And the Closet Classic, too.
So true about poly vs nitro! This pawn shop Squier had the bombproof poly. When I took it apart and tossed out most of everything but the wood, I had to use a torch and scraper to get the polyurethane off. After a lot of sanding, I re-finished it in nitrocellulose lacquer and shellac. Still holding up from a few feet away.View attachment 1782207This tele copy is one I built entirely from scratch. African mahogany with nitro lacquer, and it is showing some well earned beauty marks. I know we briefly talked about guitars last week, Jeff, but I can’t remember if I mentioned that I play bass? I haven’t done much since high school/college, but I still like to play at home.

Here’s my American Vintage Reissue ‘62 Jazz Bass I bought around 20 years ago.

Now that’s a fantastic pair, Paul! 😎:thumbsup::thumbsup:

We weren't scheduled to go anywhere today but I've got a hankering for a Welch's Grape Soda so we'll most likely ride south to Likely, Ca (a town about 17-miles south of us) to their small general store and get one. I'll be totin my slammed in my truck door, patched with J-B Weld, shieldless, Case CV Chestnut Sod Buster Jr.. It's in rehab, as am I, so, we'll get along fine. Besides, I like to get out and see the countryside even though it'll mean burning gas but what the hey!! - it's only $4.99 a gallon at the Indian Reservation.

I would love to see it, Gus. You could pose knives on it!🤪
I’m enjoying all the guitar talk👍
Great photos.
Thank you
Great looking covers on that one Bart.
😎👍
Thanks, Todd. I got lucky on that one.
Now THAT's a working knife! 🤠:thumbsup:
I was hoping it would do all the work for me. No such luck 😁

Oh man... I haven't been in Likely in many many years.

What with the Pandemic, the town's almost shut down. The restaurant is closed but the General Store and the bar are still going but both are only open on the weekends. I like the store because you can go in and get just one can of soda at a time along with a small bag of chips.

Did I ever mention I really like that pattern of your top pic? Whatever you want to call it.🤔
They sure fit a lot of blade in that jack!

Yes, you did mention that, my friend. Fine looking instrument! One of my greatest pleasures is making music with a good bass player.

That’s how I started out Paul, self-taught and then just jamming away with my pals. First with electric and acoustic guitars and then electric bass as I just lurve the interplay with drums.
Kool to see some musicians on the porch
:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Here’s a ‘79-‘81 (all factory other than strap pegs) cbs Precision with poly that’s surprisingly sinking into the grains of the ash body ☺️ No checking as with nitro, but what can you do !!
