What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Another day with the Ironwood Whaler.

This is a "speak when spoken to" post in which I respond primarily to comments made to me.

And yet it's thinner than a lot of two-springers, and lacks the yawning voids of some three-springers.

Late yesterday, when I'd decided the Master Barlow was a bit much in my cargo shorts pocket, Greensleeves beat out the sowbelly very narrowly.
I'll carry Cherry-bones today.

My camera-shake compensator needs to work harder. The above is the best of three.
Good observation about the Case 47 stockman, and your bone sowbelly is splendid!
I think that sowbelly photo is perfectly acceptable; do you really have a camera-shake compensator? I always set my point&shoot for a 2-second shutter delay, so that I can hold my breath and "freeze" after hitting the shutter button (an action that always jiggled my camera before I learned how to set the shutter delay).

...

It's so true... many different ways and at many different levels.
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The bullheads got there by eggs sticking to bird’s legs, I suppose?
Can that really happen? That would have been so cool and "magical" when I was a kid, to have the cow tank spontaneously generate fish! The bullheads got in our tank because we'd put them there after catching them while fishing in Pratt Lake with Grandpa T.

Cool trio - you're like Goldilocks and the 3 Kleins! 🤓

That's an absolute beauty, GT. 🤠
Beautiful bolsters on that one.

Love the red tints in that bone Gary. 😎👍
I'll 2nd what John said, that Case 47 is a beaut, Gary.
Wow wow GT! Top 10 for sure! I love everything about that 47!
...
I’ll jump on the bandwagon. Nice one, Gary. I like those lined bolsters.
Nicely formed rationale for liking your Case!
Is the round bolster prefernce based on looks, or is there a comfort factor?
I have both styles, and never gave it a thought.🤓
John, Todd, Greg, Jon, Bart, & Jeff, thanks for the compliments on my walnut bone 47 stockman. :) (I'll bet Harry Old Engineer Old Engineer might have one of those, too; he had quite a few knives from that series at one time.)
Jeff, I prefer the look of round bolsters, but I also pretend that round bolsters are easier on pockets than the pointy corners of square bolsters. Probably very similar to my preference for almost sunk joints (canoe and sowbelly stockman are favorite patterns) and my distaste for big sharp tang corners sticking out when a blade is closed. (In reality, I likely won't even live long enough for those "undesirable" factors to make holes in my pockets. 🤓)
Tasty Bonus Shot of that 47:

Went with a Western lock back that I picked up around 4 weeks ago at a flea market. Also carried this bone handled RR stockman which is somewhat similar in pattern & size to a Case 18, slightly smaller though.

Rough Rider's medium stockman reminds me a lot of the 897UH Uncle Henry medium stockman whose praises I was singing yesterday.

Thanks, Gary.

The cows will try to drink but the dogs generally object to the cows getting close enough to drink. The fish don’t seem to mind 😁

I think you’re right, although earlier this season I found a 6 or 8 inch catfish in the field gasping for air that had come through the irrigation pipeline. I put him in the trough and he is still alive months later. The mosquito abatement district will put mosquito fish in the troughs, too.
...
Interesting interactions among the dogs, cows, and fish.
I never thought about all the ways fish could end up in stock tanks - mosquito fish is brilliant!

That sowbelly is fantastic Gary, and incredibly special. 😎👍
Thanks, Todd. :)
I already like the looks of Case's chestnut jigged bone CV series, and then several of mine have additional sentimental value.

Eureka jack again. Great blade for cutting open a bag of salt.

That is a great Little blade Bart. I probably use it more than the main. It does a great job of cutting the caps off my cigars! 😄

That’s what it’s all about. 😊👍

No, it's 8mm. 30-30 is rimmed. That is the only Remington soft point ammo I have. Loaded to the anemic US standards, similar to 30-30 (170 gr at 2360 fps). The European loads that I have are in an entirely different class, usually 197 gr at 2500-2600 fps. German WW 2 standard load was 196 gr at 2470 fps, which was significantly more than the US standard ball 30-06, 150 gr at 2700 fps.
Thanks.

Thank you. Palsy button for short. I have to keep my flash suppressed because the flash no longer pops open.
Yup, it's pretty hard to not twitch. I may have to get out the old tripod.
[I just took six pics, none of which are remotely acceptable]

That's better. Even without the tripod.

Another pair from my "top ten stock knives" that I'm carrying this week.
A Chinese Buck 373 (I think the Chinese version is called a Trio instead of Cadet like the US-made 303) that my in-laws recently sent me. It was the last pocketknife my father-in-law carried before he passed away last November. Obviously a recent addition to the top 10 group.

Rough Rider stag sowbelly stockman (thanks to black mamba black mamba for giving me the chance to buy some RR stag):
