What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Two Toothpick Tuesday.

Now that I have over two dozen of these Case Classics to play with for a little bit, my repertoire is quite expanded - making alliteration fun.

This Case small toothpick is much bigger than their current small toothpick. It’s as long as a GEC 15. Can’t help but think it would be a much better seller if it was currently this size and this clip blade shape.

I had a Case medium toothpick in a shopping basket for a long time. Maybe I can find it and put it back.

Both the Barlow and the takeout looks good, my friend. 🤠
Great pair, John.
Thank you, Bart. :)
Is it football season already?
It was a long time coming. ;)
Can’t we just enjoy baseball?
No. 😁
The Maloofs ruined basketball for me.
I'm always jealous of your wide open work space. 🤠
Thought you were going to carry the Ebony more?
I can't blame you for choosing the bone though, it is lovely.
Classy couple of knives, John!
Thank you, GT. :)

Too far behind in this thread to catch up, even if I limit myself to one comment per page. So I'm just responding to posts that included comments to me.

Gary, I don't know how you do it, just generally speaking. After 3 days, it's hard just to look and see what everyone else has been carrying.

Have a great day!
I really like this knife!! Really classy! What is the chunk of titanium(?) A worry stone?

This is picture is actually from Saturday but I have the same one on me today. It's funny we all stress about rust but this sat in my pocket while working off loading vehicles for 5 hours. And let me tell you I was soaked. And of course I had my tactical gummy bears with me as backup.

Sometimes plain old civilian gummy bears just aren’t enough.

For some reason I didn't think to change down for the eye doctor. No harm done.

Went to the eye doctor, and no harm done. Winning!

A Camillus Scout whittler that had shrunken scales and was so generously rehandled by a fellow member here about ten years ago. It’s been my favorite ever since 🙂View attachment 1928836
The 72 is such a fine knife to carry and use. Nice upgrade!

Great knife for that job.

Wenger Lumberjack and my GEC #54 Big Jack. This was my first GEC after seeing all of yours for a while. Back when they were available and affordable, I found it on the auction site for $60 or $70. I knew nothing about the 54, or all of it’s variations, just got hooked by the name Big Jack. I like big jacks.14C1F2B7-6839-4077-AD87-9B45766BB570.jpeg37B9F75E-9889-4F48-900A-4CBED38E0CE2.jpeg
We had two days of welcome rain. About 2 inches total, thoughtfully delivered slowly rather than all at once, which allowed the garden, trees, and lawns to absorb it. I got a whole bunch of lettuce and spinach sown Saturday~ they don’t germinate well in the heat of midsummer, so this is the time for a late season crop. The cooler weather and rain should be just what they need to germinate.
We’ll see how long the first frost holds off. Since I’ve been doing this, we are often able to have fresh salad out of the garden with Thanksgiving dinner. And with selective harvesting, not cutting everything, the plants go dormant, and pop up as soon as the snow melts in early spring. Fresh salad in March is a nice thing.

Have a fine day, my friends!

That’s the problem…the current design of the medium toothpick is 4 1/4” closed. The current small design is 3” closed. I don’t enjoy carrying anything over 4”. I don’t like slim 3” knives. I’ve come to love the GEC 14 but only because it is wider than a Case peanut or toothpick. It’s just more substantial feeling.

This Case Classic design I’m carrying today is 3 5/8 closed. Right in the sweet spot. It was made in 1994. Gotta love that 25 cent stamp too.C5D7306F-AF4F-476C-A988-F59F4DCAED5B.jpeg

If you have tree rats around, you’ll know what this is.496AAEFA-065A-4488-856C-9C90F63882C2.jpeg
The walnuts are dropping a heavy crop of nuts, and every day I catch the industrious rodents planting nuts. They never plant nuts and acorns in areas you might want another tree, always in the open~ the lawn, the garden, next to the foundation, etc. It’s a survival adaptation/evolution thing. They bury nuts for food storage, and avoid overgrown areas because field mice and meadow voles will find them there. The mice and voles don’t roam in the open areas because they get picked off by hawks. So open areas it is.

The ones they don’t find during the winter become the next generation of trees. Nature is incredible.
