I like the horn, John. You must have had big plans today.
At my twice a year dentist appointment I’m just waiting for my appointment Time:mad:

Great handles on that one, Jim. And I always love that bolster stamp 👍
Yeah I have bunions from wearing work boots for 25 years and it helps ease the pain
Makes sense. It caught my eye as I was scrolling through and made me wonder.

Ettrick and a small fixed blade.

It was really dry where I was today.

I truely believe that if you're going with one blade the Lambsfoot is a top choice, especially a solid beauty like your Big 'Un! ;)👍👍

I grabbed these two bladed Case jacks this morning. :)
Thank you my friend, those two compliment each other well, with the contrasting jigging styles, just beautiful :)

Have a good Friday folks :) I'm carrying an Old Friend, along with Charlie's #86 :)

Some winners from Wednesday.

The trees don't know if it's Spring or Fall.

The J.O.T.S isn't the fanciest GEC in my collection, but it's been the one I keep putting in my pocket each morning.

The summer was so hot and dry. We had some rain last week, and it seems all the plants are taking the chance to do their thing before winter. Even the eggplants in my garden, that I thought were dead, have started a new round of blossoms. I'm hoping for a fall crop.
These posts do little to debunk the frequent claim that Austin is weird!! o_O 🤓

RALF is up today.

Always good to see RALF, Jeff.:thumbsup::cool:
I want to stand up and yell "RALF", like in that old TV show Cheers when everyone yells "Norm" whenever he enters the bar. 🤓

Thanks a lot pal, I can't actually recall when I bought, maybe a year or so ago?
Looks like a nice scout; how does it compare to a classic Richards scout knife?

Thanks Gary! I know about the alert bell, but it's really more the amount of time involved. This thread moves fast and I like to look and see what everyone else is carrying, and comment, but time is something I don't often have a lot of and it's sometimes hard to keep up.

Yes sir, it is what they call Damascus steel in Spain. Really it's San Mai, where there is a VG-10 core that is clad with softer layers.

Hope you have a great day with your Forest Master!
Thanks for the info about that blue Taramundi (and for the other comments).:thumbsup::thumbsup: Rough Ryder once had a wood-handled lockback with what they claimed was a San Mai blade. I planned to try one, but waited too long.

Thanks GT! That Mink Skinner of @Ed G ‘s is glorious indeed!
You said it, Jon! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Original Goodness. 🤠
Thanks, John. :) I get a little nervous each time it comes up for a week of pocket duty, because I'd hate to lose it. But I'd regret even more not carrying it now and then.

Good Morning Porch Friends and Happy Wooden Wednesday

Always enjoy seeing your special GEC gunstock!:cool::thumbsup: Did you have to send Excalibur to England recently for Charles to yank it from a stone?;)

I first read that you have 31 Pocket Pals!
Work THAT into your rotation schedule.🤪
I noticed the ambiguity of that sentence when I posted it: "three I" would have been clearer than "3 I". 😁
I like Pocket Pals, but even I would consider 31 of them excessive! The 3 that I have are already hard to tell apart; they have different shields, but the differences are very subtle.

I have this one with me. It will get apple duty at lunch today at lunch. I have to get the patina going. 😉👍View attachment 1930365
That black stockman is very dapper!:cool::cool: Synthetic ebony?

The Farmer is one of my favourite SAKs too Gary, I find the saw really useful :)
I'm considering getting a Farmer X, and the scissors would probably push that model ahead of the standard Farmer in my "popularity rankings". 🤓

Cool knife and boots!:thumbsup::cool: I've never laced boots that way; is that for a functional reason, or entirely a fashion statement? ;)
Oops! I just saw that you already answered this in a post I hadn't read yet. Thanks, and I hope the lacing continues to do its medical job!

Thanks! I love making the pieces and I'm very excited to see how they all turn out. I'll probably post a picture of the finished set when all is said and done. 😁

As soon as I wanted to start whittling making a chess set was first thing on my mind to carve. Its a good challenge that I hope will help me hone my new skills. Plus its a super relaxing hobby. To answer your questions, I have a chess set at home that I'm roughly basing my designs off of. I'm also using some pictures I found online to give me more inspiration. I'm not too far into the project yet, I've only made a handful of pawns, but I already have an idea of what I want the more intricate pieces to look like. The knight is the only piece that feels daunting but I'm sure I'll reach a point that I'm happy with even if it takes a few tries. And I only have a bunch of basswood to carve so everything will be made of the same kind of wood. I think I'll probably just use a darker stain for the black pieces and some mineral oil for the white, nothing too complicated. As a total novice, I'm getting a ton of enjoyment out of this project so I highly recommend giving it a shot yourself.
Thanks for the info; I encourage you to post a photo of your finished project (or even occasional "work in progress" pics)!:thumbsup::cool:

That's a stunner!! 😲:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That one (and any other canoe, for that matter) floats my boat every time!:cool::thumbsup:

Thanks Gary, if it wasn't for the blade play, I'd say it was a much superior knife 👍
I'm considering getting a Farmer X, and the scissors would probably push that model ahead of the standard Farmer in my "popularity rankings". 🤓
A useful addition 😎👍

I like the horn, John. You must have had big plans today.
Thank you, Bart. :)
I just wanted to carry a larger workhorse knife, even though my plans were more pony sized. 😁
Always enjoy seeing your special GEC gunstock!
Thank you, GT. :)
Did you have to send Excalibur to England recently for Charles to yank it from a stone?
Only if he adopts the name Arthur. 😁
Very sweet looking little fixed blade... not sure I'd seen that one yet. 🤠
Beautiful horn your Lambsfoot, Jack. 🤠
Very nice picture, as most of your pictures are. 🤠
