I have several old jacks and Barlows. One thing I noticed is that the pen secondary seems to be the one that got used the most, judging by sharpening wear. Not always, but often enough to make me notice.

I do recall seeing more pen blades worn down on older knives. On this particular knife the clip is easy to grab so it's my go to.
