See that maple seed on the leaf? View attachment 1965754About 35 - 40 years ago, at our first house, our neighgbor, Eileen, had a beautiful Sugar Maple. I took a few seeds from it, and planted them about 3” deep in my garden. When we bought another house and moved a year later, I dug up the seedlings, along with about thirty Black Walnut seedlings I’d started, put them in milk crates, along with all of Grandma’s perrenials, and planted them at the new place.

Beautiful tree, Jeff. Here’s our very disappointing maple. In the summer it has these big, dark green leaves with a hint of deep red in them. The first year we lived here, I thought, “That thing is going to be amazing in the fall!” Yeah, not so much. The leaves turn a slightly paler shade of green and shrivel up a bit, like they are now, then eventually just fall off like that.

Nice fixed-blade, and an interesting sheath, I did something a bit like that back in 1993 I should get round to taking some photographs

F&F #21 BullBuster in burgundy linen micarta ….I think. This is my only micarta knife and I feel like it has darkened with use and time - does that happen or am I having a senior moment ?

It definitely happens. Here are the same two #71s, in OD Linen and Natural Canvas Micarta, brand new and after a couple years in rotation.

I think rescued dogs tend to be like that. Manny does the same thing ~ sticks to me like a cokleburr. The fall before he passed, Jason rescued Manny as a wee pup. A friend of a friend knew someone with a litter of pups that were destined for the pound. And even though we weren’t thrilled about it because we already had two older dogs, Manny fit right in to our home and hearts. Now that he’s gone, Manny has become bonded with me.
We’re off to board him now for two days so we can travel east for a funeral. It will feel strange around the house the rest of today.

It is special
We adopted buddy when he was 2 from a family that had 4 kids under 5 that adopted him from the pound, 12 at the end of the year. Real people dog. He hangs out with me most the time, kids are off doing there own thing. He has become a dog of style, dying his muzzle white to match his owner
When we moved last year the wife said no dog in the kids rooms as she didn't want him on the carpet, fair enough. 1 morning I couldn't find him, on the daughters bed, her response was Mum didn't want him on the carpet, so I carried him didn't touch the floor
