Have a nice day

I just posted this in the ‘Old Knives’ thread but thought you might like to see it…

My most used paring knife made by South River Cutlery Co, Conway whom I believe closed their doors in 1855 which makes it at least 167 years old and possibly closer to 200 …..still in almost perfect condition. If I could only have one of all my kitchen/chef knives it would be this one….

I wonder if the cutler who made that one ever dreamed it would still exist and be in use so many years later.
I'd hazzard a guess that the long line of previous owners knew how to stop or use a steel, and rarely - if ever - introduced it to a stone.
A fantastic knife. 👍

Since Monday, I've been carrying 10 of my favorite stag or horn knives (7 stag, 3 horn). But I haven't posted any of them here yet, and it's Thursday already! Here are a couple of the stags (from China) and one of the horns (from the U.S., thanks, Paul) I hold in high esteem.

I switched to a pair of Camillus, a 23 Big Jack, and 72 Carpenter’s Whittler. Neither is very pretty, but I don’t worry much about that. The jack dates to the late 1940s, and the whittler I lucked into at the flea market. I have two of each of these patterns ~ it’s a vice of mine.
Here are two of my vices on two of my vises. 🙄654BD575-5145-407C-B199-18EA1A2F1481.jpeg104EF462-5779-4545-A484-2101CD208732.jpeg
