What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

jbIgptO.jpg

I started the day in my workshop/shed weighing and measuring locks.

The old scales are probably innacurate but gave me an idea when comparing one chain against another.

Why do I like this simple knife so much?

I wouldnt take it out in the woods as first choice but in my workshop/shed etc, its ideal.

My participation on The Porch has been quite superficial (by my standards) the past couple of weeks. I have lots of excuses: unseasonably nice weather has had me outdoors more than usual; busy at work; fighting the flu for the past 2 weeks, including having to sleep sitting up on the couch for 4 consecutive nights to avoid coughing fits while lying down; trying to keep up with leaf removal; getting a bunch of cool "thrifty" knives from J Just Tom. that deserved my attention... But I thought I should try to spend a little more time here, and discovered that I have a bunch of old quotes from I'm not sure when. I apparently thought they were noteworthy at one time, and I'm going to see if I can remember why I picked them out for future comment.

Thanks Gary !!! ... I too have a soft spot in my heart for the Sod Buster knives.
SB Jr was the first knife I carried daily many years ago as a young adult and on the job. Was my only pocket knife for about 5yrs and never let me down
Thanks for the testimonial, Jim.:thumbsup::cool: Until I won a SBJr in a GAW here, I didn't have much use for single-bladed knives. But once I started using it, my "horizons were broadened."🤓

Thanks, Gary. I like the Napoleon Dynamite reference. That’s actually where he got his name. That’s what happens when the kids name the dog 😁
That's pretty cool, Bart!:cool:😁 (Says the guy whose dog is named Gandalf because the dog's facial hair resembles that of the wizard in LOTR according to my wife.)

It was Gary, the service was outside, beautiful colors, and I saw some family I haven’t seen in a couple of years. 👍
Belated rejoicing in your successful wedding road trip way back when, Todd.:thumbsup::rolleyes:

Well, I survived my first colonoscopy.
...
I had nowhere to carry the Imperial during the procedure, of course.
Congrats, Jer!:cool::thumbsup: I've had many colonoscopies (a younger sister had colon cancer as a young adult, so all the siblings are encouraged to have frequent checks), and I find the prep much more challenging than the procedure itself.

My days are starting way too early lately
I know what you mean, Jon. :( Now that Daylight Savings Time has ended, I'm reminded of the remark attributed to Yogi Berra: "It gets late early out there these days."

Good Morning Porch Friends

Splendid lambsfoot, John!:cool::thumbsup: And you continue to push the envelope in your photo settings with the breakthrough "knife-on-knot-with-initials" shot!🤓

One thing I’ve scoped out at the flea market is anvils. But whoo wee, the prices are precious.
Back on the farm when I was a lad, we never had a real anvil. But IIRC we had at least 3 sizes of lengths of railroad track (I'd guess about 6", 12", and 18") that were used like anvils (of course, the top wasn't flat, which could be a drawback). But I have no idea where they came from, and if such things are available now, what they'd cost.

...

What's done is done. You posted it, so it is fair game for perception by Mr. P. 😲😲🤣 ........................... and here you go:

Rob, you have such a fertile imagination; you must be dumping BS on it all the time!!:thumbsup:😁
Thanks for taking the time to show us some of your visions! When I saw the burl on that knife, I immediately noticed the ram's horn you identified, but that might have been because I had recently had my first bottle of Shiner Bock beer with a ram on the label and bottle cap:

Terrific trio, José!:cool::cool: I always enjoy seeing the knives from your country.

every time I carry this one, “Pony Boy” gets stuck in my head … not a bad thing, but apparently a thing.
I often have Dicky Betts songs running through my head, Paul. 👌
You gentlemen have a different song in mind than the "Pony Boy" song one of my grandpas used to sing while bouncing grandkids on his knee! 🤓

I've been carrying this Case Trapper ever since I got my Cancer Diagnosis about two years ago(stage 4 colon and liver cancer)
It keeps me in the right state of mind with the quotation on it.View attachment 1971733View attachment 1971734
Thanks for sharing your positive attitude with us, and praying for your health and peace.:thumbsup:

In my garden today.

Barlow and a viscious 2” snake you rarely see snakes in England.😁
...

...
The snake isn't too impressive, but that Barlow is certainly astounding!!!:thumbsup::cool:

Color me delighted that when opened, the blade centering is inline with the handle on this S & M
Unlike other Canoe pattern knives I have that have "droopy" blades ... not that there's anything wrong with that

Those are some super-pointy spear/pen blades on that superb S&M canoe!!:thumbsup::cool:

Very handsome Gary :)
Cracker Jack is a wonderful Lambsfoot. 🤠
Thanks, Jack & John. :)

Beautiful stag Gary, you’re the King of the canoes!
😎👍
Thanks, Todd. :) You're the King of Kind Comments!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I've had a busy last few months, with my wife being diagnosed with Guillain barre syndrome and then finding cancer. She's been through chemo and radiation, and physical therapy from the G.B.S. When she came home we had a nurse but only til noon, so I took a part time job so I be her caregiver. But now she's walking albeit with a walker for now, and almost fully independent at home. Thank God for his grace and healing! Last week she walked up a long hallway, through the lobby and back down the hallway at PT without the walker! First unassisted steps in a year! As things are getting better she has been encouraging me to become active here because she said I get allot of enjoyment here, and of course she's right!

Oh it's so good to hear positive news from people who have been challenged and kept the faith. A newer visitor here but wishing you well.
