What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I picked up the stainless #73 this morning.

Paul, in my experience the 440C knives have smoother pulls, and this one is a firm but smooth 6, just right.

I think today, since it's a lazy rainy Saturday
I'm gonna tote a gift from Duane (aka sitflyer)

What he called his frankenknife
Which is a 442 blade installed into what I think is a buck 112 handle

Well chosen pair Gary.👍
Love that blue, Gary! 👍
Thanks, Bob & Jim; that pair certainly have bright, cheerful colors. :)
Jim, I'm always impressed with that blue bone on the mini copperhead. Such a rich, bright, uniform dye job that doesn't fade at all near the bolsters or edges of the handle. The red Case shield is just icing on the cake that really makes the blue pop! 🤓

If we're voting again, I'll vote for the Case whittler again (although it may not be exactly the same one I voted for a few days earlier)!:thumbsup::cool:
Rob, are the photos of these 2 knives taken on a board that you used to use regularly 7 or 8 years ago for photos? (I noticed in a later post that one of your most often used current "platforms" is an antique bench you have; I had thought maybe it was an old desk or dresser top.)

You always have intersting knives GT. Today is no different. Have a great day buddy.
I appreciate your saying so, Paul. :)
I'm pretty happy with the knives I've been able to acquire over the past 9 years (man, it doesn't seem nearly that long! o_O) with my "dollar a day" knife budget and the incredible generosity of Porch people!

I like that pic Gary
Thanks, Jack. :)
I call that one "A Study in Monochromatic Chrome". 🤓

I agree, GT, I also thought of the traveling knives. Earl’s been everywhere man/Merle’s been everywhere man...

I also like the ram on the 93 and its placement further down the handle.

I like your Earl/Merle/Everywhere idea! :cool::cool::thumbsup:
I don't know the show Poker Face but I like the pic with the Shiner Bock bottle caps all over the roof! 😁

Good morning Gary,
You did very well with your homework assignment.
The little knife is an older JA Henckles. They are very well built in my opinion.
Have a good one.
Thanks for the info, Bob. :) I like little knives, and I almost always carry a couple of them, but I'm not one of those guys who thinks he can happily take care of almost all his cutting needs with just a Peanut or a Vic Classic or Minichamp.

Good call, Gary - it is indeed a Mink Skinner.
I find myself partial to the scaled down Muskrat / “California clip” blade profile … and this configuration has two of em!
😎
And thank you for the kind words!
😂😂
Thanks for the confirmation, Paul. :)
I tend to prefer a muskrat-style slender clip even on a stockman. I gave away the first muskrat pattern I ever had because I wasn't thrilled with the identical blades. But someone later gave me another muskrat, and with use, I decided "if one slender clip is good, a second on the other end is even better".

I look at it as my own little pushback against entropy. Not in the strict Clausian sense, just looking for a sense of order and predictability, and fighting the gradual decline into disorder. 😗

Probably one of the reasons you submit yourself to a rigorous and highly formulated knife rotation schedule. I mean, besides the fact you like numbers ‘n sech.🤓

Hey! Speaking of rigorous schedules, you’re working an awful lotta hours for a prof. who’s already retired!
I can relate to your entropy remark, Jeff. I'm one of those "OCD guys" that thinks if you let putting stuff away, or cleaning up a mess, or other "disorder" like that slide, pretty soon your house or neighborhood or country or planet is total chaos!! :eek:o_O (Naturally, my wife is far less worried about "a place for everything and everything in its place" than I am.;))

Thanks Gary. I have always liked that little patch of saw cut that pokes through the jigging on this one.
Yeah, it's nice!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I have a good looking Kutmaster stockman that I bought in a dimly lit junk store, and after I got it out where I could get a good look at it, I discovered that its "lazy action" that I thought I could fix with a good cleaning was actually due to both springs being busted!o_O:(

Thanks!

Your "knife of the week" posts helped inspire those posts. :)
Thanks for the kind word; glad I could play some role. :)
It actually saves me a lot of time each day (and each week) to have all my knife choice decisions made in advance.:cool::thumbsup:

Useful pair Gary :)
Thanks, Jack. :) I like having visually-appealing knives, and unusual/rare knives, and "interesting" knives, but my primary goal is to have knives I can use!

5K Qs 5K Qs Not thought about that GT ...I'm attempting to show a different knife each month on this year's wildlife calendar- but do I have enough knives??? :D Calendars here are in both of the National languages as you'll see, they contain details of name days-most common names have a name day and small gifts are sometimes given etc.
The thing about starting on Monday is that time is structured here for businesses, schools, colleges, universities etc around week numbers, people take holidays in weeks 17-20 e.g. and the current week number is 10. Schools and colleges have recently had their winter ski-ing or sport holiday and it is zoned around the country in three bands so not everybody is off at once, so weeks 7,8,9 are set aside.

Knife aspect :)

Cool couple of knives, Will!:cool::thumbsup:
Thanks for the calendar remarks. In the U.S., we commonly talk about Saturday/Sunday being "the weekend", but that's really not consistent with our Sunday-to-Saturday standard calendar set-up. I wonder if that Sunday-to-Saturday arrangement originated in Judeo-Christian traditions with a Sabbath on the 7th day of the week, and Jesus' Resurrection on the 1st day of the week.

Thanks, Gary. Sorry for the delayed reply, I’ve been so busy I haven’t had much time to spend on the Forum. It’s a mini trapper, 3.5 inches. A full sized is bigger than I like to carry regularly. The geese are snow geese, which are the most common variety around here.
Thanks for the replies, Bart. :) I like looking at full sized trappers, but like you, I don't really like carrying them very much and don't typically buy them. But I do like most variations of 3.5" mini trappers.

I looked up "snow goose" online and apparently they do migrate through Michigan, but I don't recall ever seeing them. The website I looked at reported that they often travel in enormous flocks (as you pic indicated) and that Snow Geese are prolific at pooping, and they defecate between 6 – 15 times per hour.

Sweet knife, Gary!:cool::cool::thumbsup: Does that have one of the lock release levers for which you recently posted a link?
I changed all the clocks about 5pm Saturday - I think we only have 4 left that need manual changing, plus my $10 Casio wristwatch. But "springing forward" is much easier for at least 3 of our "digital time devices" than "falling back" will be in October (if that's when the next time change is), because it's much easier to advance the hour by 1 than it is to advance it by 11 or even 23 to get the effect of turning back 1 hour.

Agreed. I get some analysis paralysis choosing knives. Plus trying to make sure I carry/ use knives that haven't been recently.

Very nice. Would love to see the rest of the vehicle.
I’m glad somebody asked! 😎👏

You messed with my tired head on that one.
I recall telling Elijah J. (at bedtime) to not be waking me up at six o'clock ...... because it would just be five o'clock. :(:(🤣
As it turned out, we got up at seven o'clock. 🤣
I think it was thinking about the copperhead snakes that got me. They'll go out of their way to bite you. 🪱

P.S. - you owe me two hours of work !
Mrs Fleschwund says ok ~ AFTER I finish the bathroom remodel.

Rob, I once told my “method” in church, and a lady yelled st me for it.😁

Gary, I heard there’s a bill in the Senate to do away with the time change. If they can figure out how to tax us for it…🫣

guess I will add the 828318 Dixie Stockman to my pocket.
As many of y'all know, it is difficult to beat the versatility of the stockman.
I am also rather fond of the 1095, and the unusual secondary blade selections.

The 39222 Bunny Knife (number 291) and 852211 Harness Jack (Number 24 of 35 numbered Bunt Stag) are still in my pocket.

LOL! :D When I was a teenager, I was sharing a house with 2 older guys, and we got it wrong. I remember walking down the street, going to work, and wondering why there was nobody about at 6.30am, when it was actually 4.30am! :D
Raspberry Rally girl scout cookies are like thin mints with raspberry flavoring. Interesting how they use "flavor" "flavored" and "flavors" three times in the description on the box. List of ingredients does not have raspberry :D Worth the $5 asking price if you consider it's a donation but certainly not worth the flipper price.

Cowboy ribeyes have come back down in price to $9.95 a lb :) So easy, so good. Have a great Sunday and don't forget to spring forward if required.

LOL! :D I bought this knife for the packaging, rather than for the knife :D ;)

Stunning! :)
Thank you Mr. Jack !😊
I was wondering what was left of your snow art this morning ? 🤔❄️🐰
🍃
The snow is all gone now Mr P! 😭 I noticed my neighbour had cleared his path with a shovel on Friday morning. I was still in, waiting for a parcel, but the snow had melted by lunchtime :D I can remember doing the same myself when I first lived here  :D

Thanks, Gary! Yes it has the tail-lock, or tab-lock. It's a really well made and finished collaboration. It would cost me a couple thousand to have a Lake made Lake.
I set a couple of mine before I hit the sack last night. The ones I'd open my eyes to. I just did a quick count and found 15, including appliances, that needed setting. Oh, and 2 in the vehicles! Ridiculous! I say spilit the difference and settle on a half hour and stop the nonsense! Too bad if the rest of the world doesn't like it! :D ;)

Congratulations Gary :)
Thanks, Jack! I've had it for quite awhile now. I remember when AG Russell had it in their catalog, back in 2002. I was going to buy one then, but I wasn't quick enough. I had my eye out for one since then. Luckily I was the first to contact Gary when he was looking to sell his.
