What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Thanks Jeremy. The Boker still impresses me every time I carry it. And yes, the $5 seats exceeded my expectations by far.

Are you going to be there for the All-Star festivities?

Just in time, too. All star game is next week.
Hopefully. I report in Friday and my ship is in California. I don’t know when they want to get me down there yet.

That's one heck of a FB JJ! Nice little partner too :)
Thank you very much, Jack!!! It's one of my pals from the "old days" :)

Hope everyone had a great day yesterday :) I recently got some WABOOM in my life, when my friend Bob Rufus1949 Rufus1949 gifted me this gorgeous K'roo Lambsfoot  I'm carrying it today for the first time

That's a real beauty and definitely deserves the WABOOM moniker! It's definitely firing on all cylinders, including some that usually don't exist, sweet!;):thumbsup:

I hope you can stay for it. That would be awesome.
It's not quite up to their Tin Cloth jacket/coats, but it's great for the price. :)
Glad to hear it. I kind of assumed if their name was on it, it would be decent. Cool little knife👍

The coat on your "xyz" canoe has a very rich coloring. Two nice ones Gary.👍🏻
Thanks, Bob. :)
The "XYZ" canoe is mysterious. Some websites list it as "Miscellaneous" canoe instead of "XYZ", even though the tang stamp is "HCOA", and the shield explains that acronym as Handyman Club of America. Some internet searching suggests that organization used to be reputable, then became a scam, and is now out of business. You mention the coloring of the bone, and that's also kind of mysterious. The color on dealer websites is almost always listed as brown, but many reviews by buyers point out that the color is some shade of orange, and I agree.

I started the week with a couple of Barlows.
Boffo Barlows, JJ! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Have a good 4th everyone. Mables my girl today.🍺🧨View attachment 2240492
Bob, you started the Independence Day fireworks early with that pair!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Mabel's a nice name. 🤓

You're spoiling my complaining.
That's one of the drawbacks of the current emphasis on "data-driven decision-making." ;)

Thank you Gary. 🤠 That Barlow certainly is a favorite of mine.
I can see why! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

I'll vote for the big spearpoint knife on top!:cool::thumbsup:
Does the shield include the words "prairie schooner"?

Thanks for the berry info !
You're welcome, Steve. :) The best tip for me was that picked raspberries always have the hole where the stem had been, but picked blackberries are "filled in" at the stem attachment.

Thanks, Gary!
Yes, Blackberries are not the same as Raspberries.
No Guitar Heroes, but there have been many that influenced me, openend my eyes, and steering me in new directions.

I think the regular Sodbuster is close to perfectly proportioned. There’s something off with the jr to me, and I gave the only one I had away.

I am going to struggle to NOT think of you urinating when I look at my hollyhocks now. 🤨

Thank you for the Whittler compliment. Ron gave that one to me, and I really like it!
Thanks for the interesting and informative comments, Jeff.:cool::cool:
Lots of companies (in several countries) make Sodbuster style knives, but I'm not clear on which models are full sized and which are "junior" sized. I've had several Sodbuster Jr. sized knives (from Case, JJ Martinez in Spain, Imperial, Schrade (5OT), Rough Rider) and I like them for a single-bladed knife. Is the size off for you, or balance, or blade-to-handle ratio?

I'm glad I could introduce some extra imagery into your enjoyment of hollyhocks! 😁

I think what makes the difference is having to do it, as a chore, on orders from Mom ‘n Dad, vs having fun.

When I was a kid, it was for fun ~ I imagined I was an Indian or pioneer living off the land. 😊

Last year when my Grandson was out visiting, it was just at the tail end of black raspberry time, and the gooseberries were coming on. Picking with him was a lot of fun, especially after he discovered how good wild gooseberries are.

He will be out later this month for a week, and I’m hoping that the blackberries are ripe then.
I had lots of chores, and I usually didn't mind them at all, especially when, like you, I used my imagination to make the work more fun. But picking raspberries usually involved having my shirt impaled by thorns in 6 different places, basically immobilizing me and my imagination.

Nice way to show your colors for the Fourth, Todd!:thumbsup::cool:
Several folks carrying knives with those covers for the holiday.

Happy 4th of July! Blue Angel pics from the weekend airshow at Tinker AFB.

Thanks for the amazing airshow photos, Chief!:thumbsup:😲

Perfect for my ear plugs and a good memory.
:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Having that Ace in your pocket is way better than and ace up your sleeve!🤓

Lovely antique stag lambsfoot, José!:cool::thumbsup:

Cool couple :)
Thanks, Jack. :)

Plaudits to Bob for his grand generosity!:thumbsup::cool:

I am totin two Jacks, a Camillus Navy Jack, and a Tidiute 54.
And the Canadian Belt Knife in it’s dangler sheath was next to my coffee maker, because my wife didn’t like it where I’d left it on the kitchen table, so I stuck it on my belt, too.
She also did that with my pruner and work gloves.

Happy Thursday. Although I’d be happier if all that rain had not passed us by. It’s weird. My wife called me from a highway/interstate junction 20 miles from home to tell me she’d had to pull over because it was raining so hard. Not on my garden, though. Sigh… I guess I’ll be watering again.
I skipped a day of berry picking on Tuesday, so yesterday, I made the rounds again. Four more quarts in the freezer, but I left out enough to make a pie.B10E8687-861C-45C5-82AA-79A3A7CAA7B5.jpeg
I told you the milkweed flowers were interesting. Here’s a pic ~7609EEC5-08B0-4119-AA22-2E4CBF98CA1B.jpeg
A neighbor also has milkweed in her flower beds, and her husband showed me the Monarch Butterfly eggs on the underside of a leaf. Couldn’t see any on mine, though.

The Hollyhocks by the mailbox are fun. 3EC381BD-B0D1-4721-AC30-40C1EF933A57.jpegI grew them from seeds I got from my first ones three years ago. These are the old-timey heirloom cottage garden variety and just have what they call “single flowers”. Maybe I should buy some seeds of the showier “double flowered” varieties.
Have a swell day, eh?

I love your farm boy memories, and I’m jealous. But I can see how the endless chores could lead you to look for a different career!

Here’s a pic of the two GEC Farm n’ Field versions, Bullnose (jr sized), and Bullbuster next to the original Case Sodbuster (a gift from Todd after he saw me fondling one at the Blade Show). The Case numbers are 2137-Jr, 2138- full sized.

I didn’t like Case’s blade shape on the Jr. ~ strictly aesthetics. To bluntly rounded at the tip.

GEC nained it as far as blade shapes. I like both sizes, but lean toward the full size. Being a single blade, it’s no problem in my pocket. It just comes down to what fits your hand, what you’re using it for, and what pleases your eye.
